Crusaders top Irish

BELLAIRE - The Steubenville Catholic Central girls basketball team earned a road win, 42-37, Wednesday at St. John Central.

Senior Micca Mirabella led the cause with 13 points. Lauren Hunt added nine and Renee Dziewatkoski eight. The Crusaders are now 2-3.

Marissa Rose had a game-high 23 for the Irish.

The Crusaders visit Oak Glen on Monday.

Bruins fall to Potters

EAST LIVERPOOL - The Brooke girls basketball team lost another tough one, this a 59-57 decision at East Liverpool on Wednesday.

Angela Staffileno led all scorers with 32 points. Michaela Hinerman added 12 and Lauren Altobell nine.

Brooke, which was outscored 44-36 in the second half, visits Weir tonight.

TORONTO - The Toronto wrestling team edged Linsly, 45-36, on Wednesday.

The Red Knights won eight of the 10 wrestled weight classes, earning falls in all of them.

Wildcats win tri-match

RICHMOND - The Edison wrestling team swept visiting Bellaire (70-9) and St. Clairsville (45-27) Wednesday as the season opened.

The Wildcats won three of the five wrestled events and the other eight by forfeit against the Big Reds. Will Scholl (138) and Nick Fisher (145) won by fall and Blaine Cline by major decision.

Edison won four via forfeit against the Red Devils. The on-mat winners were Josh Kleiner (106), Robert Daley (126), Lane Weaver (132) and Fisher.

FUS men and women lose

STUEBENVILLE - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's and women's basketball teams lost to visiting Pitt-Greensburg on Wednesday.

The men lost 82-74 and the women 70-57.

"We're a completely new group of guys," FUS men's head coach John Lamanna said. "That's why there's going to be those times when we're not connected and there will be those times where we are connected. We need to stay patient and see that there's positive growth."

Women's freshman point guard Rara Gomez was coming off of an injury and playing for the first time this season. Gomez contributed 13 points while fellow freshman guard Illiana Gonzales scored 19.

"I'm proud of how the girls battled and played hard, especially in the second half," FUS women's head coach Suzy Delaney said.

The Barons host Hilbert College at 2 p.m. (men) and 4 p.m. (women) on Dec. 14.
