Alzheimer's caregiver

support groups set

The Alzheimer's Association will be holding its monthly caregiver support group meetings on the following dates:

The sessions are free of charge and open to all caregivers, family members and friends with a loved one living with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. For information, call the Greater East Ohio Area Alzheimer's Association at (330) 650-0552 or (800) 272-3900.

Adena Lions honor

poster contest winner

Martin McKim introduced the annual Lions peace poster contest winner, Julie Ingram, at the Nov. 13 dinner meeting of the Adena Lions Club held at Mehlman's Restaurant.

Ingrim, accompanied by her mother, Sandy Smith, accepted the peace poster award. The poster has been sent to the Lions district governor who will present it to the District 13G Lions for judging. Winners throughout the state will be at the state convention with entries sent on to the international convention.

Lloyd Hutchinson presided at the meeting, announcing that Dustin Kinsey has practice for the annual Christmas cantata under way. Kinsey announced the next club minstrel will have the theme of "Roarin' Through the Decades."

At the Nov. 6 business session, members heard a request from a member of the wellness committee at Buckeye Local Elementary School about a donation for a playground and volunteer help to work on it.

The club received thank-you notes from Urban Mission Ministries for clothes collected and from the Harrisville Fire and Auxiliary.

The Lions made a donation for hams and turkeys for Thanksgiving baskets for the Adena Community Food Pantry and a monetary donation. Members are buying gifts for those listed on the Giving Tree in Adena and Harrisville.

Open house, cookie

sale at P. Hill museum

The Pleasant Hill School House Museum on state Route 213, Steubenville, will hold an open house and cookie sale and order pick-up from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Dec. 14.

DiGregory's poinsettias also will be available for purchase that day. "This is the final fundraising activity for the year," a spokesperson said. The schoolhouse will be closed until April; however, individuals or groups can make reservations for a visit by calling (740) 264-3565 or (740) 283-1626.

Veterans Service

Commission to meet

The regular monthly meeting of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at 500 Market St., Suite 310, Steubenville.

All veterans or interested parties are welcome to attend.

Christmas party

at E.S. center Saturday

The East Springfield Community and Recreation Service Center on county Road 39, located next to the East Springfield Volunteer Fire Department, will be the site of a Christmas party at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

Open to the public, the party will feature Christmas trees; a variety of exhibits such as the Christmas Express train, lit villages, teddy bears, a snowman and Santa and his sleigh with reindeer; free photos with Santa Claus; and cookies, popcorn balls, punch and coffee. Santa will be on hand to distribute gifts to children.

City schools retirees

treated to music program

Forty-six Steubenville City Schools retirees gathered for lunch on Nov. 14 at Steubenville High School.

Cards were signed for ill members.

After lunch, retirees were treated to a show led by music director Scott Wolodkin with piano music by George Melhorn. The Plaids, starring Adam Andresson, Dominic DiCarlo, Noah McAllister and Joey Nodianos, sang a variety of songs. Sara Mamula also accompanied them on the bass.

The next luncheon will be held Thursday at the Steubenville Country Club with orders taken from the menu. Those wanting to participate in the Christmas gift exchange should bring a $5 wrapped gift with their name on it.
