Wheeling Hospital joins disaster drill

December 15, 2013
Weirton Daily Times
Wheeling Hospital was one of five Northern Panhandle hospitals to jointly participate recently in a mock disaster drill involving a massive snowstorm that paralyzed the region. Each hospital played out its role in handling numerous patient and internal issues that could confront their facilities during such a scenario. The mock disaster was organized by the West Virginia Hospital Association in cooperation with the state’s Region 10 and 11 hospitals, including Wheeling Hospital, Weirton Medical Center, Reynolds Memorial Hospital, Wetzel County Hospital and Ohio Valley Medical Center. John Sebring, Wheeling Hospital safety and security director, said the drill was a success and enhanced the hospitals’ abilities to handle such disasters. Among the Wheeling Hospital staff in leadership roles for the drill were, from left, Vice President of Legal, Bruce Archer, who served as incident commander; Chief Medical Information Officer Dr. Dennis Niess; and Chief Nursing Officer Kathy Stahl. — Contributed
