Carrollton school board president guest speaker for Alpha Mu Chapter

The Alpha Mu Chapter of the Alpha Delta State organization of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met Dec. 14 at Zalenski's in Wintersville with President Darlene Smith presiding.

Special guests were Angela Smith of John Gregg Elementary introduced by Karen Goddard; Lisa Truman, a teacher at Carrollton elementary, introduced by Smith; Carolyn Kibble of Cadiz, introduced by Bernice Francis; and Jennifer Lash and her son, B.J, introduced by Dani Carroll.

A revision of bylaws will be made by Smith, Rose Seck and CarolynLee Barrett. New business included the state convention set for April 4-6 and biennial reports to state by Feb. 1.

The hospitality committee lead by Cicely Worthington read "A Surprise for the Teacher" by Sam Levinson. Taking part were Jan Primack, Margery Gregg and Mary Lou Custer.

The personal growth and services committee led by Joyce Ferguson will be collecting donations and goods for animal shelters in Jefferson and Carroll counties. This month's project was collecting goods or personal gifts for Martha Manor in Steubenville and the Golden Age Retreat in Carrollton.

The membership committee will be accepting nominations for new members. Carole Thorne should be contacted for applications. New members will be voted on at the March 8 meeting.

Seck, president of the Carrollton Board of Education spoke about the more than $4 million POWER project grant that Carrollton Schools will receive. Power is an acronym for Providing Opportunities With Extraordinary Results. The program was created by the Carrollton Exempted Village Schools and is partnered with Battelle for Kids, Ohio State University and others. It will aim to improve opportunities in the energy field.

Carroll, a member of the music committee, introduced B.J. Lash, an Edison Local student who played the steel drum.

The next meeting will be held March 8 in Carrollton.
