Follansbee chamber honors important

December 28, 2013
Weirton Daily Times

Our communities would not be able to survive without their people and their businesses, and it always is nice to be able to recognize the contributions they make, such as recently was done by the Follansbee Chamber of Commerce.

During its dinner last week, the chamber honored several from the community for their efforts. We applaud those recognized for everything they have done, and continue to do.

Among those awarded were Brooke County teacher Suzanne Davidson, for her work to promote a love of science in today's students; Business Development Corp. Director Pat Ford, for his work in local economic development; Follansbee Municipal Judge Michael Fuscardo, for his continuing service; and Kayla Cutrone, for her efforts to raise money for a variety of causes.

NC Sportz and Crown of Gold Salon were recognized as businesses of the year, and Riesbeck's was selected as the corporate business of the year.

Jim Mirasola, who spent 26 years as Follansbee's city clerk, was selected as citizen of the year is recognition for his lifetime of public service.

Every community has its own leaders, those who step forward and go beyond what is expected of them to contribute toward their town's success. Whether it be a business showing its support for local events, a group organizing various fundraisers, or someone working to provide programs to encourage education or to help the less fortunate, they should be recognized by their communities. We also hope they serve as inspiration for others to find ways to give back.

We again congratulate the chamber award recipients. They are a shining example to all of us.
