To the editor:
Last month, a benefit was held in my honor. To all who helped prepare the event, made donations to it and kept good thoughts, I say thank you. It was truly humbling. I would like to quote the following message from Sam Clark, a great friend who posted these words after the event:
"There are times in life when I believe that we all question the goodness in people and humanity as a whole. Just spend 30 minutes watching any national news station and try to walk away without being just a bit depressed. Sometimes, however, we experience a shiny glimmer of hope that reminds us that all is not lost.
"I was fortunate enough to experience just such an event on the night of Nov. 9. Friends, family and fellow police officers from the Ohio Valley got together to support officer J.J. Kamerer. The number of people and the kindness, generosity and overwhelming support were sights to behold.
"I would like to say on behalf of the Mingo Sportsman's Club how proud we are to have been a part of this event. On a more personal note, I would like to express how proud I am of the people who I call my friends. The incredible outpouring of generosity and selflessness is an awesome testimony to just how many of us love and respect J.J. We all know that J.J. is always there when we need him, no matter what the situation.
"That night was the best thank you that we could have every given him, the single greatest example of paying it forward that I have ever witnessed. Positive energy is an all-too-negative word. God is good."
God bless, and thank you.
