Shanagu Seniors

have party

The Shanagu Senior Social Club of Mingo Junction held its annual Christmas party on Dec. 8 at Scaffidi's Restaurant where Bettyann Jeffries, chaplain, gave the invocation.

Prizes were donated by Wheeler Funeral Home, Everhart/Bove Funeral Home and the Shanagu Senior Club.

A card game called Florida Bingo was played with Georgia Brooks and Floyd Crawford the big winners.

The club officers are: president, Diane Pernick; vice president, Rose Giampolo; secretary-treasurer, Marge Juresko; assistant treasurer, Georgia Brooks; chaplain, Bettyann Jeffries; and assistant chaplain, Barb Jackson.

New membership in the club opens in January. The club meets every Wednesday from 12:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mingo Senior Center. All seniors age 50 and over are welcome.

Service tonight

at First Baptist

First Baptist Church of Steubenville will hold a Freedom Eve Watch Night Service tonight at 10:30 p.m. at the church located at 334 Cedar Ave., Steubenville, off Lawson Avenue behind the Pleasant Heights field.

A spokesperson said participants can:

Confess and thank God for 2013 blessings;

Declare God's divine favor for 2014; and

Learn kingdom keys for overcoming life's struggles.

It will include a time of prayer and refreshments afterwards.

Satellite veterans

office to be open

The satellite office of the Jefferson County Veterans Service Commission will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Dillonvale American Legion, Liberty Street, Dillonvale, to assist veterans, dependents of veterans, and/or veterans' widows with Veterans Administration pensions, compensations, burials, schooling, medical assistance and other veterans' benefits.

Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is closed every Wednesday afternoon to the public.

School system

retirees meet

Retirees of Steubenville City Schools met Dec. 12 for lunch at the Steubenville Country Club.

Christmas and get-well cards were signed.

All those who participated in the gift exchange placed gifts on a table. Linda Holub drew letters out of a basket. Everyone whose first name began with that letter went up to choose a gift.

The charity next month will be the Jefferson County Humane Society. Lunch will be held on Jan. 9 at the Ville at the Fort Steuben Mall.

Library programs

are announced

The Public Library of Steubenville and Jefferson County announces the following lineup of programs:

Play and Learn (caregiver and children ages birth to 3) will be at the Schiappa branch on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and at 6 p.m. The hour-long play session encourages children to love the library at a young age.
