Ohio Valley Depression, Support Group meets Wednesday

WHEELING - The Ohio Valley Depression and Support Group meets from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the first, second and fifth Wednesdays of each month at Wheeling Jesuit University's Whalen Hall.

The group will meet Wednesday and Jan. 29.

It is a peer-led group with a facilitator. Those attending the group make the decision whether to speak or not.

Author gives publishing presentation

WEIRTON - Local author Cindy McDonald will give a presentation, "How to Get Your Work Published" from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mary H. Weir Public Library's activity room located at 3443 Main St.

Elks hold chili cook-off, pasta dinner

WEIRTON - The Weirton Elks Lodge 1801 will hold their second chili cook-off and pasta dinner on Saturday and Sunday at the lodge located on Main Street.

The chili cook-off will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. Any member or guest is invited to make their best chili and enter it into the cook-off. The cost to sample the chili and cast a vote for the winner is $4 for adults and $3 for children. Prizes will be awarded for the best chili.

The pasta dinner will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. It includes pasta, salad, bread, butter, dessert and tea or coffee. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under. A ticket will be selected for a free dinner at next month's pasta Sunday.

Country Friends host Stone Street

COLLIERS - Country Friends will host Stone Street Station Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Old Police Lodge Road.

The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance starts at 7 p.m.

Country Friends holds covered-dish dinners and open mic nights every Monday and Friday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m., and open mic begins at 6 p.m.

MLK?dinner scheduled for Monday

WELLSBURG - Staff and students at Brooke High School will again serve a free spaghetti dinner Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

Held in recognition of the civil rights activist's call for everyone to serve others, the dinner will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the school's cafeteria A.

Takeout will be available. Deliveries to shut-ins also may be arranged by calling (304) 527-1410 ext. 3540, 3541 or 3542.

H&R?Block holding open house

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - H&R Block will host open house events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 23 at 107 S. Hollywood Boulevard and 181 N. Fourth St.

Those attending the open house will have an opportunity to talk with H&R Block tax professionals about their previous and current tax returns, as well as tax tips, tax law changes, tax planning and other financial issues.
