Library announces Lunch with Books

WHEELING - Ohio County Public Library has announced upcoming Lunch With Books programs.

They include:

noon Tuesday, "A Life in Television News." Television news veteran Steve Mazure will share his memories in local TV news and explore how broadcast news has changed over the years.

noon Jan. 28, "Wheeling Film Society Conversation: Marx Brothers' 'A Night at the Opera.'"

The Wheeling Film Society, a partnership between the Ohio County Public Library, Oglebay Institute's Towngate Cinema and Wheeling Jesuit University's Fine and Performing Arts Department will screen the Marx Brothers' "A Night at the Opera" at 7 p.m. Friday at Towngate Cinema.

The conversation about the film will take place at noon Jan. 28. John Whitehead, Wheeling Jesuit University film studies professor and "Appraising The Graduate: The Mike Nichols Classic and Its Impact in Hollywood" author, will host both the screening and conversation.

The Marx Brothers made the comedy about immigration, employment and class-consciousness during the Great Depression. Both the screening and conversation are free. Seating is first-come, first-served. Parental guidance is recommended.

noon Feb. 11, "Slavery and Freedom in the Tri-State Area." Samuel W. Black is the Heinz History Center African-American programs director, Association of African American Museums president and "The Civil War in Pennsylvania: The African American Experience" editor. He will discuss slavery and freedom in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia, including Wheeling.

noon Feb. 18, "Pops: We Are Family." Pittsburgh actor Greg Kenney will portray Pittsburgh Pirates slugger Wilver "Willie" Stargell. During a celebrated 21-year career, "Pops" evolved into the leader and captain of the team that won the 1979 World Series.
