'Black Damp Century' author

to speak Wednesday

PARIS, Pa. - Kerry George, "Black Damp Century" author, will speak at Paris Presbyterian Church's monthly Coffee With the Author event at noon Wednesday at The Gathering Place Coffee Shop located at 127 Steubenville Pike.

The church also will hold a potluck luncheon at noon Jan. 29, after which there will be a viewing of "The Cross," the final entry in Billy Graham's "My Hope" series.

H&R?Block holding open house

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - H&R Block will host open house events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at 107 S. Hollywood Boulevard and 181 N. Fourth St.

Those attending the open house will have an opportunity to talk with H&R Block tax professionals about their previous and current tax returns, as well as tax tips, tax law changes, tax planning and other financial issues.

ABATE holding swap meet

BRILLIANT, Ohio - American Bikers Aimed Toward Education of Ohio Region 1 will hold the 24th annual motorcycle swap meet, beginning at 9 a.m., Feb. 16 at Xtreme Honda.

Motorcycle accessories, leathers and T-shirts will be for sale. Seamstresses will be available for alterations and patches. The event includes door prizes, food, beverages and a $1,000 drawing.

Admission is $6 per person and those 16 and under are free.

Vendors are still being accepted. The cost is $35 for two tables and set up is from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. the day of the event.

Paolo named to dean's list

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Joel A. Paolo, the son of Joe and Andi Paolo of Weirton, has been named to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown's fall dean's list.

Paolo is a senior pursuing a double major in marketing and management and a member of the school's wrestling team. He recently completed an internship at Northwestern Mutual.

Cave, Pizzurro named to dean's list

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio - Melissa Cave of Newell and Lauren Pizzurro of Newell were named to the Kent State University - East Liverpool's fall dean's list.

To qualify for the dean's list, students must earn a 3.40 or greater grade point average and must have completed 12 or more credit hours for the semester.

Bowland, Callas named to dean's list

CLARION, Pa. - Karli Bowland of Burgettstown and Michael Callas of Burgettstown both were named to Clarion University's fall dean's list.

Students must earn a grade point average of 3.5 for placement on the dean's list.
