Brooke County Library to show

'Despicable Me 2' Saturday

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library will be showing the PG-rated animated film "Despicable Me 2" at 11 a.m. Saturday.

'Chili Bowl' to be held Sunday

WEIRTON - The Christ United Methodist Church will hold its first "Chili Bowl" at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the fellowship hall located at 3598 Pennsylvania Ave.

Those attending may make a free-will donation to vote for their favorite chili. The chili receiving the highest donation will be the winner and awarded a traveling trophy.

Hot dogs and chips also will be served.

Senior center holding bake sale

WEIRTON - The Greater Weirton Senior Center will hold a bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday. The center is at 3425 Main St./state Route 2. It welcomes donations of baked goods.

Church holds men's breakfast

WEIRTON - Christ United Methodist Church holds a men's breakfast and fellowship at 8 a.m. the second Saturday of each month at the church located at 3598 Pennsylvania Ave.

They will next meet Feb. 8. The breakfast is free.

Valentine vendor show scheduled

BURGETTSTOWN - The Burgettstown Community Library will hold a Valentine's Day vendor show from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 8 at the library, located at 2 Kerr St.

Vendors include Dove Chocolates, Tastefully Simple, Valentine's Day Cards by Dorothy, Fudgie Wudgie, Avon Jewelry and products, More Than Just Books, Scrub a Dub Dub, The Hillbilly Way and Castellino's Bakery.

Lincoln-Douglass dinner scheduled

WEIRTON - The Morning Star Baptist Church will hold the 69th annual Lincoln-Douglass Scholarship Banquet at 6 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Holiday Inn - Weirton.

William "Bill" Burrus, former American Postal Workers Union president and "My Journey" author, will be the keynote speaker.

Burrus was born and raised in Wheeling and now lives in Upper Marlboro, Md. Tickets are $30.

Wesleyan honors local students

BUCKHANNON - Connor Arlia of Weirton, Alec Buchmelter of Follansbee, Yvonne Burch of Windsor Heights and Jackson Carey of Follansbee were named the the West Virginia Wesleyan College fall dean's list.

Wesleyan's Dean's List requires students to earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 in 12 or more semester hours.

Evans named to dean's list

GREENVILLE, Pa. - Cory Evans of New Cumberland was named to the Thiel College fall dean's list.

Evans, a junior, has been named to the list twice. Students must achieve a grade point average of 3.4 while being enrolled full time to be eligible.

Salatino named to dean's list

ASHLAND, Ohio - Megan Salatino of Follansbee, was named to Ashland University's fall dean's list.

Salatino, the daughter of Mark and Pamela Salatino, is majoring in public relations and strategic communication and sport communication. She is a 2012 graduate of Brooke High School.

To be eligible, a student must be enrolled full time and achieve a 3.5 grade point average.
