WELLSBURG - Brooke County Schools will hold registration Feb. 10-14 for children entering pre-kindergarten and kindergarten in the 2014-15 school year.
Children currently enrolled in Brooke County Schools' pre-kindergarten program need not register for kindergarten. Children must be 4 years old on or before Aug. 31 to enter pre-kindergarten and 5 years old on or before Aug. 31 to enter kindergarten.
Registration will be held from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the school board's office at 1201 Pleasant Ave.
Parents should bring a certified copy of their child's birth certificate, the child's Social Security number and the most up-to-date immunization record.
All children new to the district must have a health assessment completed by a physician. Forms for them are included in the registration packets. School nurses will check the health records.
Children will be registered for the primary school or preschool site in the area where they live. Requests for the child to attend another school may be made but can't be guaranteed.
In addition to the preschool program at Brooke High School, the school district partners with the Grandma's House and Little Bear Daycare centers in Follansbee and Weirton and Northern Panhandle Head Start centers in Wellsburg and Beech Bottom to provide preschools there.
Copies of children's birth certificates may be obtained from the office of vital statistics in the state where they were born. West Virginia birth certificates are $12 each and may be obtained by writing to: Vital Registration Office, Capitol Complex, Building 3, Room 516, Charleston, WV 25305.
Ohio birth certificates are $21.50 and may be obtained by writing to: Bureau of Vital Statistics, Ohio Department of Health, 246 North High St., First Floor, P.O. Box 15098, Columbus, OH 15098.
