drawing to celebrate 14 years
BETHANY - A Child's Place Court-Appointed Special Advocate celebrated its 14th anniversary Monday.
The organization has served 496 children in Brooke and Hancock counties. Volunteers have donated 17,638 hours and driven 30,518 miles.
Instead of holding an open house, CASA will hold a drawing for an overnight stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Weirton. Those making a donation of $14 or more to the agency by Friday will be entered.
Friends to host Hank Vincent
COLLIERS - Country Friends will host Hank Vincent and The Stone Street Station Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Old Police Lodge Road.
The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance starts at 7 p.m.
Country Friends has covered-dish dinners and open mic nights every Monday and Friday. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m. and open mic begins at 6 p.m.
Country Friends Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Christian friendship ad brotherly love through music.

Ministry holding event
WEIRTON - The Teens Teaching Truth ministry welcomes area residents for food, games, worship and learning from noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church located at 121 Ivy St.
Post hosting benefit dance
CHESTER - The American Legion Post 121 will hold a benefit sweetheart dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Feb. 15 at the post located at 404 Carolina Ave.
Uptown Saturday Night will perform. It is open to those 21 and older. Tickets are $10.
All proceeds will benefit the Butcher, Rice and Snow families, whose children were killed in an automobile accident Jan. 18.
Food handling class set
WEIRTON - The Hancock County Health Department will hold a food handler class at 10 a.m. Feb. 24 at the Sacred Heart of Mary Church located at 200 Preston Ave., on Weirton Heights.
The class is open to the public. Any person involved in food service in Hancock and Brooke counties is required to possess a current food handler card. The class is for volunteers as well as those employed in the food service industry.
Food handler cards are free to volunteers working for a nonprofit organization. For those employed in food establishments, the cost is $7 for a one-year card, $12 for a two-year card, and $17 for a three-year card.
Food Handler training may also be obtained by taking an on-line class by going to www.HancockCountyHealthDepartment.com to take the class.
Payment for the online class may be made by using a credit card or Pay Pal. Participants also may print the completion verification and pay the fee from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the health department.

St. Thomas holding dinner
WEIRTON - St. Thomas Episcopal Church will hold a dinner from noon to 6 p.m. Feb. 28 at the church located on Three Springs Drive.
Dinner includes an open-face meatloaf sandwich, French fries, vegetable and coffee and tea. The cost is $6.50. Soda or bottled water is $1 and dessert is 50 cents.

Theatre hosting vendor show
WEIRTON - Striplight Theatre will host a spring craft and vendor show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 1 at the Millsop Community Center located at 3420 Main St.
Approximately 20 vendors will be on hand, including Styro Art, 31, Origami Owl, Tupperware, Pink Zebra, Susani Gifts, Sugar and Spice Hairbows, Dove Chocolates, Mary Kay, It Works, In a Pikle, Perfectly Posh, Scarlet Scarves, Wreaths by Mary and Trunk of Tricks.
The event also will include a Chinese auction, 50/50 drawing, "Gypsy" cast meet and greet, ticket giveaways and children's costumed characters.
