To the editor:
As the mayor of Steubenville, I am encouraged by the investments that companies are making in our area.
I was present for the announcement on Jan. 31 at AT&T store in the Fort Steuben Mall that 4G LTE wireless coverage is now available in Steubenville. This high-speed mobile service will allow more businesses, educational facilities and citizens to access the most-advanced wireless network, making Steubenville a better place to live and work.
I especially want to thank state Sen. Lou Gentile, D-Steubeville, and state Rep. Jack Cera, D-Bellaire, for their work in Columbus to encourage public policies that make this kind of investment possible. AT&T invested more than $1.8 billion in its wireless networks in Ohio between 2010 and the first half of 2014, which has given customers a faster and more reliable wireless network.
Increased investments in wireless networks also have benefited public safety as faster data speeds allow cities like Steubenville to respond more rapidly to the needs of our citizens.
No matter how you slice it, increased capital investments in our local economy are a boon to our community.
