CHARLESTON. (AP) - Public schools across West Virginia are closed and some government offices are delaying openings because of a winter storm.
The National Weather Service says up to a foot of snow is possible today in parts of Nicholas, Webster, Pocahontas and Randolph counties. Other areas could see 6 inches to 8 inches.
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin is asked state employees to delay going to work until 10:30 a.m. today, except for those providing weather-related support.
The Kanawha County Courthouse in Charleston delayed its opening until 10:30 a.m.
West Virginia State University in Institute is closed today.
About a dozen flights at airports in Charleston and Beckley have been cancelled. Utilities report about 400 outages.
Winter storm warnings remain in effect through this evening for most of the state.
