Country Friends to host Sands
of Time Saturday in Colliers
COLLIERS - Country Friends will host the Sands of Time band Saturday at the Memorial Hall located at 67 Old Police Lodge Road.
The doors open at 6 p.m., and the dance begins at 7 p.m.
The group holds covered-dish dinners and open mic nights Mondays and Fridays. The doors open at 4 p.m., the meal begins at 5 p.m. and open mic begins at 6 p.m.
Country Friends Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicate to promoting Christianity, friendship and brotherly love through music. All proceeds go to charity.

Chester church welcomes Dennis
CHESTER - The Chester Church of the Nazarene will welcome the Rev. Kevin Dennis, West Virginia North District superintendent, at 10:40 a.m. Sunday at the church located at 205 Third St.
Dennis will bring greetings on behalf of the district, along with the morning sermon. He is originally from the Weirton area and is the former Wellsburg Church of the Nazarene pastor.
St. Paul registering pre-k
WEIRTON - St. Paul Preschool is registering pupils for the 2014-2015 school year.
An open house will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Those unable to attend may call the school to make an appointment for a tour.
The three-year-old class is offered from 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. or noon to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The four-year-old class is held from 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. or 11:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; space is limited.

Elks hosting dessert challenge
WEIRTON - The Weirton Elks Lodge 1801 will be holding the first "Delicious Dessert Challenge" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 15 at the lodge located on Main Street in downtown Weirton.
Both members and guests may enter, and those planning to enter are asked to sign up at the club. There is no fee to enter the challenge.
To taste desserts and cast votes for the best dessert costs $3 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under. Elks House Committee Chair Richard "Dick" Pannett and committee are in charge of the event.

United Way hosting tournament
WEIRTON - The Weirton United Way will host a "Taking It to the Hoop" three-on-three basketball tournament March 29-30 at Weir High School's gymnasium.
Both male and female teams from ages 8 to 65 will be accepted. There is a $60 per team registration fee. Those registering by March 20 receive a free T-shirt.
