Hancock Schools holding
WEIRTON - Hancock County Public Schools will hold kindergarten registration for those children who will attend Weirton Elementary School in the 2014-2015 academic year from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Weirton Heights Elementary School.
Students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31 to register for kindergarten.
Parents must bring immunization records, birth certificates, proof of residence and the child's Social Security card. Parents must have their driver's license or other valid photo identification.
Students already enrolled in Hancock County Schools pre-kindergarten don't have to register. Those children attending Weirton Heights Day Care, Children's Academy, Headstart, Liberty Pre-School and Broadview Pre-School will receive an updated registration form at their current school.
If school is canceled March 13, the registration will be held March 20.

Gardening workshop scheduled
FINLEYVILLE, Pa. - The Tri-State Area Master Gardeners Association and Trax Farms will hold a spring workshop, beginning at 9:30 a.m., March 15 at Trax Farms located at 528 Trax Road.
Morning presentations begin at 9:30 a.m. and include "Evolution of Herbs" by Master Gardener Linda Steider, "Companion Planting For All Spaces" by Master Gardeners Roger Van Horn and Dawna Kale and "Invasive Plants: The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" by Master Gardener Greta MacIntyre.
The afternoon session begins at 1 p.m. and consists of creating a living wreath. All materials will be supplied, and master gardeners will be on hand to assist.
The morning session costs $15 and the afternoon session cost $20 or $35 at the door. Those who pre-registered by calling the West Virginia University Extension Office at (304) 564-3805 will pay $30 for both sessions.
Pro-Life dinner scheduled
MORGANTOWN - West Virginians For Life will hold the 16th-annual Pro-Life Rose Dinner March 28 at Lakeview Golf Resort and Spa.
Cal Thomas, columnist, author and radio and political commentator, will be the keynote speaker.
The reception begins at 6 p.m., dinner starts at 7 p.m., and Thomas will speak following the dinner. The event includes a book signing and silent auction. The cost is $50 per person.

WBA holding spring training party
WEIRTON - The Weirton Baseball Association will hold a spring training party at 7 p.m. March 29 at the Serbian American Cultural Center located at 1000 Colliers Way.
The event will include food, cash bar, disc jockey, silent and Chinese auctions and a $1,000 cash drawing.
Tickets may be purchased from a WBA board member in advance for $10 or at the door for $15.
Tack auction set for March 30
NEW CUMBERLAND - A tack auction will be held, beginning at 11 a.m., March 30 at 4-H Camp Aura located on Ross Road.
Gift cards, items and services donated by local sponsors will be auctioned at noon. The tack auction follows no earlier than 1 p.m.
Name brand tack, grooming supplies, barn supplies, riding gear, horse care, wormers, saddle pads and saddles will be available. Steve Armstrong of Salem, Ohio, will provide new tack, and used tack consignments will be taken.
Reed's Auction Co. will provide auction services, with Larry Reed serving as the auctioneer.
Concessions will be available.
Sundowners 4-H Saddle Club is sponsoring the auction, and proceeds will benefit the horse show facility.
