March 17, 2014
Weirton Daily Times
Steubenville High School is one of 24 area high schools that will have the opportunity to receive tickets that will allow students to see the April 3 presentation by Capt. Richard Phillips at no charge, thanks to the support of the Health Plan of the Upper Ohio Valley. Ross Gallabrese, executive editor of the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times, second from left, presented the ticket to social studies teachers, from left, Mark Masloski, Ross Ivkovich, Joe Biasi and Randy Abram. “The kids and staff are very excited. We’re ready for Capt. Phillips. Anything that gets students thinking about current events is a positive,” said Biasi. Phillips will appear at 7:30 p.m. April 3 in the Steubenville High School auditorium as part of the Herald-Star, Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce Speaker Series. Phillips is the author of “A Captain’s Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs and Dangerous Days at Sea,” which was the inspiration for the movie “Captain Phillips.” Sponsors for the series include the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times, the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce, Eastern Gateway Community College, Franciscan University of Steubenville, Trinity Health System, the Health Plan and WTRF-TV. Support is being provided by Bayberry House Bed and Breakfast, Piergallini Catering, Newbrough Photo, Thrifty Car Rental and Steubenville City Schools. Reserved seats cost $20 each and are available by contacting the Herald-Star at (740) 283-4711 or Chamber at (740) 282-6226. Copies of the book “A Captain’s Duty” can be purchased for $12 plus tax at the newspaper.
