NEW CUMBERLAND - The Hancock County Museum Commission recently held a meeting with President Vivian Weigel calling the meeting to order and leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
Those attending included Vivian Weigel, John Brenneman, Greg Blake, Janet Keller, Alice Mitchell, and Secretary Doris Cameron.
John Brenneman moved minutes of the previous meeting be approved as corrected, Janet Keller seconded and the motion carried. Treasurer Bob McNeil was absent, so there was no report.
Building and Grounds Committee Chair Greg Blake reported numerous repairs, including installation of a new powder room sink and new window in the garage, building a display rack for the brick collection, and the preservation and framing of five early brickyard family prints. New projects include directing ground water away from the basement entrance and replacing the kitchen light switch. Janet Keller will shop for new uniform electrical plates for the areas receiving new wallpaper and paint.
Members discussed progress on brochures and an audit.
Hometown Teams Smithsonian Display Chair John Brenneman spoke about working with the Weirton Museum and Cultural Center on the display, noting Bob Barrett of Newell wrote "Hillside Teams," which includes the history of Hancock county School athletic teams. Barrett is interested in helping with the exhibit.
Play Day will be postponed until fall.
Car Show Chair Greg Blake set the event for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. June 8 with a June 15 rain date. The event will include refreshments and a bake sale.
Yard Sale Chair Bob McNeil designated the last week of May for the event.
The Hancock County Arts Council will hold the annual Tour of Homes Nov. 22, and members agreed to have the museum open during the tour.
Alice Mitchell presented 15 photos of New Cumberland street scenes from 1903, donated by Joyce Frain. An acid-free album will be obtained to display the photos. Mitchell also donated an antique wooden hand sweeper and floor lamp.
Members schedule a work day to clean up after recent renovations.
The meeting was adjourned. The commission will next meet May 8.
