Wanting to make strides

Steubenville will host an inaugural Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk this fall with area residents urged to participate, according to Kyle Elder, left, American Cancer Society staff partner. It will be held on Oct. 4 at Historic Fort Steuben beginning at 10 a.m. The event is a non-competitive 5K (3.1-mile) walk “to honor the breast cancer survivors in our lives while remembering those we’ve lost,” Elder said. All of the money raised from the event will go directly toward breast cancer research and awareness, he said. “We are currently looking for committee members for this event to work with me and Barb Wilinski, event chairman, in a variety of areas,” Elder said. Anyone interested in joining the committee can contact Elder by e-mail at or by phone at (404) 653-8067. “We’re very excited to bring this event to Steubenville,” he said.
