NEW CUMBERLAND - The Point Pleasant Methodist Church Ladies Aide met April 9 at the church located on Wylie Ridge Road.
President Carolyn Allison presided and opened by welcoming members and lighting the memory candle to honor members who were unable to attend.
The fellowship room was decorated with spring floral arrangements.
Allison introduced Bill Ross, who shared pictures of wounded veterans who have been helped through Ladies Aide donations.
Terry DeLong read devotions. Secretary Nancy Conkle read the minutes and thank-you cards from Bill Glass with Christ Christmas Tree and Allison Elementary School, both of whom received donations from Ladies Aide.
Bruce and Judy Watson made a donation to Ladies Aide, and the group will send them a thank-you card.
Kathleen McDonald gave the financial report and a collection for the Sunshine Fund taken.
Allison noted there are three afghans still available for $25.
Members discussed the "Keep in Touch" project, during which members will contact another member during the winter months when the group doesn't meet.
"Moving Forward" will be the 2014-2015 theme. Allison used clocks, time pieces and watches to introduce the theme and read a selection on the theme's meaning. She displayed a basket, which will be filled with stones as the group makes donations or assists other. Each member was given a money bag and monthly task suggestion for individual contributions.
New member Liz Pugh was introduced to the group.
Donations were suggested and made to several groups.
Members discussed Ways and Means. The group will hold a bake and yard sale June 7 at the church. Members voted to invite speakers to the monthly meetings.
The members shared their concerns and comments for the good of the group. Several asked for thoughts and prayer for those who are suffering, ill or having surgery.
Member Terry DeLong shared her excitement at running the Boston Marathon. She prepared for the event for two years and told the group how to track her as she participates in the event. The members wished her a successful run.
Carolyn Allison adjourned the meeting with a closing prayer.
Joyce Beatty, Betty Gibson, Lin Humphrey and Nancy Wright were hostesses.
The next meeting will be May 14 at the church.
