ASH, Betty Irene, 72, of Newcomerstown was called to be with her lord Saturday morning.
She was born April 1, 1942, the oldest daughter of six children to Ernest and Edith Riley.
Surviving siblings are Ernest (Beverly) Riley of Richmond, OH., Laura (Herbert) Greathouse of New Cumberland, WV., and Glenn (Diane Kirkpatrick) Riley of Steubenville, OH.
Preceding her in death: both mother and father; husband, James E. Ash; companion, Gene Huff; daughters, Christina Brandon (10 months) and Melissa Ash (18); and two sibling's, Forest Riley, and Doris Keener.
Betty and Jim were married Aug. 24, 1966, and shared a large family that they were both very proud of. They are survived by: Kathy (Gene) Derheimer of Carrollton, OH, Charles (Becky) Brandon of Cadiz, OH, Darla West of New Philadelphia, OH, Cindy Ash of Kilgore, OH, Roberta (Charles) Nation of Bowerston, OH, James (Crystal) Ash of Bowerston, OH, and Roseanna Ash of Bowerston, OH. They were blessed with 20 grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Betty had many nieces and nephews that were very special to her. Her home was always open to anyone and many other children called it their home over the years.
Betty was born at home in Cadiz, OH and always remained local. She was an amazing woman who worked hard and accomplished a lot during her time with us.
Betty and Jim owned and operated several businesses through out the years. She was an auctioneer and was part of the Scio Pottery family and later she worked as a nurse's aid. She was dedicated to every job and took great pride in her accomplishments.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. Betty always took time teaching her children and grandchildren how to be successful and independent. She was a caregiver and made sure that everyone had what he or she needed. She had a very deep belief and love for God. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, crocheting, traveling and reading.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Koch Funeral Home in Scio, OH She will be laid to rest at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Hopedale, OH Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association.
