STEUBENVILLE - The board of advisers of the Franciscan University of Steubenville is joining with the Herald-Star and The Weirton Daily Times to produce the Student Guide to the Upper Ohio Valley.
This guide, which is scheduled to be published in August, will be a comprehensive source of information about goods and services available throughout the Tri-State Area.
The 5.5-by-8.5 booklet will be designed to help students and their parents who are new to the region familiarize themselves with local stores, services, entertainment and recreation opportunities, health care providers. restaurants and more.
It will be distributed free to 3,500 students, parents and guests of the university as they arrive on campus prior to the start of the next academic year. Additional copies will be available in area hotels and restaurants.
The booklet will offer a perfect opportunity for local businesses and organizations to reach the university market in a publication that will be referred to many times during the course of the academic year.
That market is important to the region's economy.
According to information provided by the university, the total spending by its students - who come from all 50 states and a dozen countries - injects more than $8.4 million into our area.
In addition, those who attend conferences, visit family members and do business with the university pump $5.3 million into local businesses.
Sales for this project are being handled by the advertising department of the newspapers. For information, or to reserve your spot in this publication, contact Julie Jones at (740) 283-4711, extension 124.
