BERDINE, Kenneth L., 89 of Paris, PA, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, OH, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 26, 1925, in Deep Valley, PA. The son of the late Patrick and Goldie DeBolt Berdine.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Lynn Kendrick; brothers, Loyal and Harold Berdine; sisters, Vera Stephenson, Betty Thomas.
Kenneth was a 1941 graduate of Waynesburg High School. He immediately joined the Marines and became a radio man (morse code). He fought with the Second Marine Division in the Pacific Theatre, ending up in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, after the atomic bombs had been dropped. He was part of the occupation force at the end of the war. Kenneth finished his service teaching radio in Washington, DC.
After returning home, he met Wilma Cain, and they were married April 2, 1948. Their marriage lasted 66 years. Kenneth worked in Waynesburg, PA and Steubenville, OH, as an auto machinist until he retired at age 73. He was a member of the Tomlinson Run Church of Christ where he served the church as an elder for 40 years.
Surviving are his wife, Wilma Cain Berdine; son, Gary (Evelyn) Berdine of Weirton, WV; grandchildren, Adam (Lynn) Berdine, Brian (Misty) Berdine, Craig (Misty) Berdine, Kristy (Rick) Tuttle; great-grandchildren, Samuel, Sienna, and Joshua Berdine, Katelyn and Lindsay Berdine, Alexis and Carter Berdine and Brenden Schivins, Gavin Tuttle; sisters, Pauline Glover of Derry, PA, Irene Laddis of Sheldon, CT.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Evangelist Paul Blake presiding.
