The Lighthouse and the Domestic Violence Awareness Center provides protection, intervention and support services to victims of domestic violence.
Their direct services and community education empowers domestic violence victims. Community education is available on all forms of domestic violence and on agency services.
Services include free confidential, non-judgmental crisis advocacy and support; and community resource information.
Their safe shelter includes 24-hour staffing; a confidential, secure location; advocacy and referrals to community services; and safety planning.
Advocacy with justice services are provided during domestic violence civil and criminal proceedings. Services include information on obtaining protective orders; assistance in filling out West Virginia Legal Aid applications and monitored visitation.
A support group meets every at 6 p.m. Tuesdays at 3058 West St., Weirton. The group helps trauma survivors understand violence they experienced and find ways out of violent situations; understand both the impact of trauma and their capacity for healing; encourages them to heal their trauma while building safer, healthier and happier lives for themselves and their families; and combines sharing personal experiences, prepared materials, instruction and presenters to help survivors build a support network and to rebuild victims into thrivers.
The group is a member of the chamber in order to take advantage of their business services.
