WINTERSVILLE — Indian Creek saw its lead slip away in the top of the seventh inning against Oak Glen, but Ally Bevilacqua made sure the win did not get away in bottom half.

With one out and the bases loaded, she crushed a walk-off grand slam over the left field wall to lift the Redskins to a come-from-behind, 10-6 win Monday evening.

“She didn’t really hit much today, but she came through with the big hit,” Indian Creek coach Angela Penner said. “That’s the thing about our team offensively — you just never know who is going to get the key hit, and that is a good thing. These kids have heart and didn’t quit. Games like that make you better.”

The Golden Bears (8-12) battled back from a 5-2 deficit to take a 6-5 lead in the top half of the seventh. Hanna Patterson doubled with the bases load to drive in two runs and make it a 5-4 game. Janaya Montgomery, who took the loss in the circle, singled in a run to tie it. Alexa Andrews then gave Oak Glen its first lead of the game with an RBI single.

“Indian Creek is an aggressive team,” Oak Glen coach Sherrie Garner said. “They were able to drive the runs they needed. The girls stuck together and battled back. We had to dig ourselves out of a hole, but they battled and that is what we ask of them.”

The lead did not last, though. Rachel Cooper drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored her third run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Taylor Scott, who finished with four RBIs, to even the score. After Kacie Vandeborne reached for a fourth time in the game with a bunt single, Bevilacqua stepped up and ended it with her blast to give Indian Creek (10-3) the win.

“It felt right,” Bevilacqua said of the grand slam. “I didn’t know it was going to go out. I knew I had to get a big hit. It was a little scary (to see the lead slip away), but we knew we still had the bottom of the inning. We’re definitely confident in our ability to come back.”

The Redskins got five runs in the first two innings to open up a lead that looked like it might hold up behind Kaydee Kinsey’s performance in the circle. Catcher Haylie Scott drove in a run with a single in the first, and Taylor Scott brought in another with her first sac fly of the game.

Oak Glen catcher Aiden Hall put the Golden Bears on the board with an RBI double in the top of the second to make it a 2-1 game before the Redskins tacked on three more in the bottom half.

Taylor Scott drove in two with a single, and Vandeborne knocked in another with a single to make it 5-1. Oak Glen made it 5-2 with an RBI single from Hannah Walker in the top of the third.

Golden Bears starter Alyssa Creese was lifted with no outs in the fourth after issuing her eighth walk, finishing with five runs (four earned) and three strikeouts. Montgomery came in with two on and got out of the jam, holding the Redskins off the board until the rally in the seventh.

Kinsey went the distance for Indian Creek, giving up the six runs (all earned) with four punchouts and no walks.

Oak Glen faces East Liverpool today on the road, while the Redskins battle Crestview at home today before taking on John Marshall in OVAC 5A tournament action at the I-470 complex on Wednesday.
