Weir High hosting golf outing

WEIRTON — The Weir High Football Boosters Club will hold its annual golf outing July 29 at Williams Country Club. The public is invited to play and support the Red Rider football team.

Registration has begun and participants are accepted either as a four-man team or individuals who will be assigned to a team. The $100 donation includes golf and carts along with a light lunch at the turn and dinner following the event, which is a scramble format. The shotgun start will begin at 2 p.m., and there will be tickets available for prizes, a large drawing and skins games for those who wish to participate.

Williams Classic coming Aug. 18

WEIRTON — The annual Ron “Fritz” Williams memorial Golf Classic will be held Aug. 18 at Mountaineer Woodview Golf Course. The four-man scramble format will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Fritz Williams Scholarship Fund in honor of the late Weir High, WVU and professional basketball star. Entries are $60 per player or $240 per team and can be made by contacting event chairman, William “Ox” Currenton at (304) 479-6875. Women’s teams are welcome. There is a $500 prize for the first-place team, $300 for second-place and a third-place prize plus other specialty prizes will be awarded. Entries can be made by calling Currenton or by mail in care of the Fritz Williams Memorial Scholarship Fund, PO Box 72, Weirton, WV 26062.

Big Red football dinner upcoming

STEUBENVILLE — The Big Red Boosters Club is sponsoring the Lew Giammarco Appreciation and Kickoff dinner at 2 p.m. July 22 at the high school commons.

Wellsburg 5K results announced

WELLSBURG — Winners of the Wellsburg 4th of July 5K Run-Walk have been announced.

The top male runner, and the first to finish, was Michael Harriman, age 18, with a time of 16:55:89. The top female runner was Isabella DiSaia, 16, who finished with a time of 19:52:86.

The top female walker was Sarah Donley and the top male walker was Gary Bennett.
