Ohio names receivers for OVAC game

MORRISTOWN — Ohio head coach Bruce Stiles and his coaching staff stressed the word versatility when they began evaluating the wide receiver nominees for the OVAC Rudy Mumley All-Star Game.

After sifting through film, the Buckeye State coaching staff believes it found interchangeable pieces to utilize on the perimeter during the showdown with West Virginia that’s slated for Saturday, July 28th at Wheeling Island Stadium.

“It’s exciting because we have a lot of kids who can go in there at receiver,” Stiles said. “We’re able to put some kids in motion, move some in and out of the backfield. It’s nice to have that versatility. We’re really excited about this group because it’s so diverse and we’ll be able to do a lot of things with them.”

Slated to work in the receiver group when camp opens at Bethany College on July 21 are Caden Arbaugh (Harrison Central), Easton Black (Meadowbrook), Thor Duffy (Bellaire), Josh Dulesky (Buckeye Local) and Jake Keenan (Toronto).

Here’s a capsule look at the players:

CADEN ARBAUGH, Harrison Central

This versatile player was a two-way standout for coach Justin Kropka’s team.

The 6-foot-1, 185 pounder caught 20 passes for 389 yards and a touchdown. On the defensive side, he recorded 63 tackles and picked off two passes.

Arbaugh’s performances didn’t go unnoticed. He was named first-team all-Eastern District, Buckeye 8, honorable mention All-OVAC and All-Ohio.

Along with football, Arbaugh was a standout in basketball and baseball, too.

Away from athletics, Arbaugh is active in FFA and 4-H.

Caden, who is the son of Russell and Tricia Arbaugh of Cadiz, plans to attend the University of Akron.

EASTON BLACK, Meadowbrook

Whether it was on offense or defense, this former Colt was seemingly always around the ball for Coach Jeff Twiddy’s team.

The 6-foot-2, 165 pounder recorded 63 receptions for 1,279 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also posted 158 tackles, including 93 solo. He had 11 interceptions, three fumble recoveries and scored two defensive touchdowns.

Black earned second-team All-Ohio, first-team All-Eastern District, All-ECOL and was that league’s defensive player of the year. All told, he owns four Meadowbrook school records.

Also a standout in the classroom, Black has earned academic All-OVAC multiple times.

Easton, who plans to attend Malone University in Canton, is the son of Trevor and Jennifer Black of Senecaville.

THOR DUFFY, Bellaire

This former Big Red did a little bit of everything for coach Mark Spigarelli’s team.

The 5-foot-11, 180 pounder saw a bulk of his offensive time at running back, accumulating 500 yards rushing. He also had 378 receiving yards and scored nine touchdowns total. Also a defensive back, he posted 31 tackles and two interceptions. On top of that, he handled the Big Reds’ punting duties and owned a 34.3 yard average on 30 punts.

Duffy also played basketball and baseball for the Big Reds.

Thor, who is the son of Troy and Missy Duffy, plans to attend the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics.

JOSH DULESKY, Buckeye Local

This former Panther was one of the go-to-guys for coach Roger Herbert’s offense.

The 6-foot-1, 185 pounder caught 39 passes for 660 yards and scored five touchdowns. He also posted 54 tackles from his linebacker spot.

Dulesky also lettered in track and field and carried a 3.74 grade point average.

Josh, who plans to attend Ohio University Eastern, is the son of Michelle Dulesky and Brad Kurtz.

JAKE KEENAN, Toronto

This talented former Red Knight saw his season cut short due to injury, but still managed some impressive numbers for coach Eric Meek’s team.

The 6-foot-2, 200 pounder played in only five games in 2017, but still caught 17 passes for 360 yards and eight were touchdowns. He had 25 catches for 447 and four touchdowns as a junior.

Keenan was named All-OVAC and All-Tri County.

Jake, who plans to attend Wheeling Jesuit University, is the son of Patrick and Heather Keenan.
