Bruins, Crusaders draw even

WELLSBURG — The Catholic Central and Brooke boys soccer teams played to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday.

Mike Hermann and Tom Beigel scored for the Crusaders (2-0-1), while Travis Shore made nine saves in goal.

For the Bruins (4-2-1), Josh Ferguson netted both goals. Blaise Buchmelter assisted once, while the goal came on a penalty kick. Matt Reed was the starting goalkeeper, and he made nine saves. Garret Bernardini also made nine saves.

Brooke hosts Spring Mills at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Steubenville 1,

St. Clairsville 0

STEUBENVILLE — Jordan Sarjeant’s goal in the 71st minute was all the Steubenville girls soccer team needed to defeat St. Clairsville, 1-0, on Wednesday.

Jadyn Bennett assisted the goal. Zoe Nocera made eight saves in goal for Big Red (6-0).

For St. Clairsville (4-2), Jaeda Noak made 10 saves.

“Our girls played extremely hard,” Big Red coach Jared Robinson said. “Our defense really stepped up to the challenge and played a full 90 minutes against a tough St. Clairsville team. I’m just very proud of our team effort today.”

Big Red travels to face Indian Creek at noon on Saturday.

Oak Glen 7,

East Liverpool 0

EAST LIVERPOOL — Maggie Kovalcik’s hat trick lifted the Oak Glen girls soccer team to a 7-0 victory over East Liverpool on Wednesday.

Kovalcik also recorded an assist for the Golden Bears (5-1). Abigail Myers followed her with two goals and one assist. Reece Enochs and Martina Fish added one goal each. Brooklyn Loveland tallied a pair of assists, while Brooklyn Watts and Chesney Warden had one apiece. Kaylee Travis made eight saves in goal.

For the Potters, Alessandra Ferrazzanno and Shaylin Stoval combined for eight saves.

Oak Glen hosts Weir High at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
