Creek, Huskies, Knights earn sweeps

WINTERSVILLE – The Indian Creek softball team took a pair from Weir, 10-0 and 12-2, Saturday at Bantam Ridge.

Paige Geanangel picked up both wins in the circle. She struck out 11 and surrendered just one hit in Game 1’s five-inning win. She gave up just four hits and struck out three in the six-inning Game 2.

Paige DeMattio led the way offensively for the Redskins in the first win, singling and smacking a home run to go with three RBIs. Megan Markja added a single, double, and an RBI. Mallorie Sullivan had a pair of singles and Marissa DeFallo had a single and drove in a run.

Ashlyn Drizake picked up a single for the Red Riders lone hit.

In Game 2 Bre Mays had two singles, a home run, and three RBIs. Geanangel added a home run and two RBIs with Bethany Davis hitting a pair of singles and driving in a run. Cheyanne Allan and Sullivan each had a single.

Drizake, Meikka Buffo, Haley McLaughlin, and Emily Zatezalo each singled for the Red Riders.

Indian Creek (2-0) hosts Harrison Central Tuesday while Weir hosts East Liverpool Monday.

Edison splits pair

RICHMOND – The Edison softball team split a pair Saturday at home, losing 12-2 to Wheeling Park while knocking off Beaver Local 2-0.

Molly McCoy smacked a pair of home runs in the loss to the Patriots.

Mikayla Tice threw a no-hitter the win over Beaver Local, striking out 12 and walking two. McCoy had a double and Lynsey Morrison had a pair of singles.

Edison (1-1) heads to Brooke Tuesday.

Huskies sweep

Red Riders

WEIRTON – The Harrison Central baseball team swept a pair from Weir, 11-1 and 13-8, Saturday.

The Huskies received a complete game effort on the mound from Nick Pelegreen in the Game 1 victory. Pelegreen helped his own cause at the plate with a single, home run, and three RBIs. Dustin Redish and Kalub Mitchell each drove in a pair with Redish hitting two singles and Mitchell a double.

Ryan Duke had a single and a double for the Red Riders in the first game.

Rashaen Mitchell, Rhett Kuryn, and Redish led the offensive charge in Game 2 with two RBIs each. Rashaen Mitchell had two doubles, Kuryn a single and a double, and Reddish a single.

Jeremy Swartzmiller drove in three runs for the Red Riders on a single and a double. William Larch drove in a pair on two singles.

Harrison Central (2-0) is at St. Clairville Monday while Weir hosts Bishop Donahue Wednesday.

Red Knights take two

TORONTO – The Toronto baseball team allowed one run in 12 innings as it opened the season with a doubleheader sweep of Beaver Local, 9-0 and 15-1, Saturday at the Knight Baseball Complex.

Nate Stewart picked up the Game 1 win, striking out 10 and surrendering just a pair of singles over five frames.

Bill Solomon had a single and a double, Blaze Glenn had a single and two RBIs, and Austin Lucas had a pair of singles in the first game. Chez Glenn and Tyler Antinone each had a double and Tyler Owens singled.

Logan Allen earned the five-inning Game 2 win, striking out two. Blaze Glenn tripled, doubled, and drove home five runs in the second outing. Lucas had a single and two RBIs Brad Melville and Solomon each had a pair of singles while Chez Glen and Owens both singled.

Toronto (2-0) hosts Buckeye Local Tuesday.

PARKERSBURG – The Brooke baseball team was swept 12-2 and 11-1 at Parkersburg South Saturday.

On the day Kelaen Welch had four singles, Austin Schambach had three singles, Russell Schwertfeger had a pair of singles, and Chad Harper had a double.

The Bruins host Wheeling Park Monday.

Golden Bears,

Panthers split pair

NEW CUMBERLAND – The Oak Glen and Buckeye Local baseball teams split a doubleheader Saturday at Oak Glen’s Field of Dreams Complex.

The Golden Bears won 13-3 in Game 1’s six-inning contest behind Bub Haddox’s complete game, eight strikeout performance. Kyle Woodruff had a double and three RBIs to lead the offensive assault. Alex Shuman added a single and drove in two runs.

Jonathan Borkoski had a home run for the Panthers.

In Game 2 Buckeye Local took home an 11-6 victory. Borkoski and Austin Marshall combined on the hill in the win. Borkoski picked up the win with Marshall the final four frames.

Marshall had three singles, a double, and three RBIs at the plate. Josh Figurski had two singles and two RBIs while Brian Zeroski had a single and also drove in a pair of runs.

Trey Smith and Justin Bailey each drove in two for the Golden Bears.

Buckeye Local hosts Martins Ferry Monday while Oak Glen travels to Harrison Central Tuesday.
