Brooke blanks Riders

WELLSBURG – The Brooke softball team made short work of Weir High Wednesday, beating the visitors 10-0 in three innings.

The Bruins (3-2), who visit Wheeling Park today, scored four in the first, four in the second and two in the third.

Brette Geary led the 11-hit attack with two doubles, a single and an RBI. Taylor Simala delivered a double, single and two RBIs, Kristen Reardon a single and three RBIs, Marena Cline two singles and an RBI and Michaela Hinerman two singles.

Reardon earned the win.

Meikka Buffo singled for the Red Riders, who visit Toronto today.

Crusaders topple Bishops

WHEELING – Steubenville Catholic Central broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the top of the fifth inning for a 6-3 win over Bishop Donahue Wednesday at the I-470 Complex.

Alex McComb picked up her third win. She fanned seven and walked two.

Taylor Clark led the attack with two singles and three RBIs. Maddy Gulan added a single and double and Ashlynne Daley a single and RBI.

The Crusaders host Steubenville today.

TORONTO – The Red Knights scored in every inning for a 10-0 five-inning victory over visiting Conotton Valley on Wednesday.

Cari Horne picked up the win. She fanned six and walked one.

Mariah Turner doubled for the winners. Shane Sears singled and doubled. Emily Anderson and Lexie Berger singled twice as the Red Knights moved to 3-1.

Monarchs beat Edison

RICHMOND – The state-ranked John Marshall girls defeated host Edison, 9-1, Wednesday at the Edison Athletic Complex.

Amy Rotriga fanned 13, walked one and allowed two hits, one of them being a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh by Cassidy Jarvis.

Mikayla Tice took the loss. The Wildcats (1-3) visit Martins Ferry on Friday.

CALCUTTA – Anna Perrino struck out eight and Big Red collected 14 hits in Wednesday’s 7-3 victory over host Beaver Local.

Mytia Barker totaled three RBIs on two singles. Casey Gentile added three singles and Mallory Giannamore a double and two RBIs. Lauren Gray and Brittany Bodo each had two singles.
