Ellzy nearly perfect as Huskies beat Central

CADIZ – The Harrison Central softball team defeated Steubenville Catholic Central 5-0 Thursday.

Katie Ellzy was the winning pitcher, giving up two hits and striking out nine. She went six perfect innings before the Crusaders got their first hit. Ellzy added a two-run homer and a single at the plate. Kara Dunfee had a double, single, and an RBI with Shianne Nameth adding a pair of singles and driving in a run. Katie Parkison had two singles and Kiley Staley a double for the Huskies.

Micca Mirabella and Sammi Giannamore each had a single for the Crusaders.

Huskies blank Crusaders

WEIRTON – The Weir softball team defeated Oak Glen 9-6 Thursday.

Micah DiBacco picked up the win for the Red Riders, striking out four over four, with Abbey Pratt pitching the final three innings in relief. Ashlyn Drizake belted a pair of triples, a home run, and drove in six runs. Breanna Rosnick had a single and a double with Samantha Tate adding two singles and Allison Fuccy driving in a run on a single.

Mikayla Crane had a double and two RBIs for the Golden Bears with Marissa Murray adding a single, double, and an RBI.

Both teams face Steubenville the next time they take to the diamond with Oak Glen hosting Big Red today and Weir heading to Franciscan University to finish up a previous game starting at 4:30 p.m. followed by the teams meeting for their regularly scheduled game.

STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville softball team used a four-run fifth frame to defeat Union Local 6-5 Thursday.

Anna Perrino was the winning pitcher, striking out five over the full seven. Casey Gentile had a double, single, and three RBIs with Mallory Giannamore adding two singles and driving in a pair. Christina Archer had a single and an RBI as well.

Steubenville is at Oak Glen today.

Brooke nipped by University

WELLSBURG – The Brooke softball team lost 1-0 to visiting University Thursday despite a strong effort in the circle from Kaylee Kuchinksi.

Kuchinski struck out four over seven innings while surrendering just four hits and walking none. Michaela Hinerman, Isabella Preston, and Kristen Reardon each singled for the Bruins.

Brooke hosts Wheeling Central for a doubleheader Saturday.

BOWERSTON – The Toronto softball team blasted Conotton Valley 22-3 in five innings Thursday.

Shane Sears picked up the win, striking out seven over the full five frames. Becca Schaming and Carley Cooper each had three singles with Emily Anderson adding a pair of double and a single. Taylor Linn had a single and a double and Kayla Brown added two singles in the win.

Ryan Rose picked up the win, striking out four with Drew Horn entering in the sixth to earn the save. Kalub Mitchell had two singles and a double with Dustin Redish and Dalton Rutter adding two singles each and Nick Staten connecting a double.

Both teams take to the road today with Harrison Central heading to Indian Creek and Buckeye Local at Union Local.

Aaron Walker had a three-runhome run for the Bruins. Alec Buchmelter and Chad Harper each had a pair of singles with Austin Schambach and Mario Lombardi each connected for a double.

Madonna splits with Linsly

WHEELING – Madonna tennis split with Linsly Thursday as the boys topped the Cadets 6-0 and the Lady Dons fell 7-0.

Nick Conforti, Matt Conforti, Alan Alimario, and Dom Clements each won their singles matches for the Blue Dons (8-3). Nick Conforti beat Weston Mead 8-1 and Matt Conforti beat Nick Kinyanjui 8-0. Alimarion topped Jonathan Gobrial 8-6 and Clements beat Andrew Shin 8-4.

In doubles Nick and Matt Conforti beat Weston and Kinyanjui 8-2 while Alimario and Thomas Gianno beat Shin and Regen Chen 8-3.

Amy Davis (8-0), Ali Welch (8-5), Tina Conforti (8-1), and Morgan Duerr (8-5) each lost in single matches for the Lady Dons. Welch and Tina Conforti fell 8-2, Duerr and Elizabeth Conforti dropped an 8-2 decison, and Emily Fournier and Bailey Roberts lost 8-1 in doubles.
