Oak Glen, Bruins split

WELLSBURG – The Oak Glen and Brooke tennis teams split their matches Monday, with the Golden Bears winning the girls contest, 6-1, and the Bruins boys earned a 7-0victory.

Brooke’s lone win was Lauren Shelton’s 8-1 decision over Anna Crawford.

For Oak Glen, Haley Spurlock topped Kameron Miller 8-2, Abbi Sayre beat Cassidy Bland 8-4 and Madison Juszczak blanked Angie Counselman 8-0.

In doubles, Spurlock and Jusczcak defeated Miller and Shelton 8-2, Crawford and Sayre blanked Bland and Counselman 8-0 and Lauren Pizzurro and Madison Hill defeated Sydney Stewart and Kylie Greathouse 8-3.

In the boys match, Jackson Carey downed Addison Sayre 8-4 and the rest of the six matches were 8-1 scores.

Ryan Mezan beat Jake Beilhart, Bryce Kesling downed Evan Hall and Parong Gupta defeated Nate Bennett.In doubles, Carey and Mezan beat Sayre and Beilhart, Kesling and Bryce Hickey defeated Hall and Bennett and Austin Barnhart and Chris Beaman stopped Cullen Bennett and Derek Chamberlain.

Dons edge Weir

WEIRTON – The Madonna boys tennis team defeated Weir High, 4-3, Monday at Starvaggi Park. The teams split the four singles matches and the Blue Dons earned two of three in doubles.

The big match was Dustin Parr and Cominic Clements winning a 7-3 tiebreaker over Brendan Webb and Matt Tenaglio for a 9-8 victory.

Also in doubles, Weir’s Stephen White and Chad Hensley beat Alan Alimario and Thomas Gianni 8-4 and Madonna’s Nick Conforti and Matt Conforti blanked Steve Maragos and Matt Barnes, 8-0.

In singles, Nick Conforti blanked White and Gianni blanked Tenaglio by 8-0 counts. Hensley defeated Matt Conforti 7-6 and Barnes nipped Alimario 8-6.
