Reardon tosses a no-no

WELLSBURG – The Brooke softball team rolled to a 5-0 win over Big Red Monday.

Kristen Reardon threw a no-hitter, striking out two and walking one to lead Brooke. Brette Geary had two singles and two RBIs with Taylor Simala adding a double and an RBI and Abbie Carpenter driving in a run on a single.

Big Red pitcher Anna Perrino struck out three and walked one in the loss.

Knights sweep Cadets

WHEELING – The Toronto softball team began the season with a doubleheader sweep at Linsly, 10-0 and 11-0, in nine innings Monday.

The Red Knights host Steubenville Central today.

Cari Horne won the first game, striking out seven and walking none. She also singled three times in the 10-hit attack.

Shane Sears did not allow a hit in Game 2, fanning one and walking none in four innings.

She singled three times for two RBIs.

Lexie Berger, Chelsea Anderson, Emily Anderson and Becca Schaming each had two singles and a pair of RBIs.

Ferry nips Panthers

RAYLAND – Martins Ferry’s Brooklyn Monroe delivered a two-out single in the top of the seventh inning in the Purple Riders’ 8-7 victory over host Buckeye Local Monday.

Martins Ferry had a 6-2 lead after 3 innings in its opener, but the Panthers came back with two in the third and three in the fourth for a 7-6 lead.

Tyrah King collected a single, home run and two RBIs for the winners. Kylie Stalder added two singles and two RBIs. Shaye DeLeonardis earned the win.

Ivy Starcher took the loss. She fanned three and walked two.

Amy Balk led the 11-hit attack with two doubles and three RBIs. Lauren Swiger added two singles and an RBI, Becky Zeroski two singles and Kierstyn Czuchran a single and a pair of RBIs.

Buckeye Local visits Martins Ferry Wednesday.

Red Devils slip past Huskies

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – St. Clairsville scored two times in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 6-3 lead and held on to beat visiting Harrison Central, 6-5, Monday in the opener for both teams.

Winning pitcher Lauren Figura totaled two singles and an RBI to help her cause.

Teammate Summer Gallentine collected a single and a solo home run and Carlee Gillespie two singles and an RBI.

Losing pitcher Katie Ellzy fanned eight and walked one.

She had a single, home run and two RBIs. Kiley Staley added a single and two RBIs and Paige Dunlap two singles.

The Huskies visit Indian Creek today.

EAST LIVERPOOL – The Weir softball team rolled to a 14-3, five-inning victory over East Liverpool Monday.

Micah DiBacco earned the win, striking out five. Breanna Rosnick and Ashlyn Drizake each had three singles with Rosnick driving in three runs and Drizake picking up two RBIs. Meikka Buffo smacked a leadoff home run.

Weir (1-4) takes on Madonna today.
