Redskins hold off Panthers

MINGO JUNCTION – The Indian Creek baseball team held off a late Bucekye Local rally to claim a 10-8 win Monday at Muth Field.

Cole Yeater was the Redskins’ winning pitcher with a five-strikeout effort.

Drew Sullivan entered in the sixth, Tanner Wise in the seventh and Alex Young ultimately came in in the seventh as well to close the door on a six-run Panthers’ rally.

Offensively for the Redskins, Wise drove in two runs with Young, Yeater, Sean Smith, Nate Beatty and Zach Crawford all adding an RBI.

Austin Marshall drove in two runs for the Panthers with Shane Duncan, Eric Banal, and Dominic Rose each driving in one run.

Indian Creek (8-4) heads to Brooke for a 5:30 p.m. start and Buckeye Local hosts Big Red.

Luca Fuscardo’s bat leads Blue Dons

CAMERON – The Madonna baseball team rolled to a 15-5 win over Cameron led by a big day at the plate by Luca Fuscardo.

Fuscardo belted three home runs and drove in six runs for the Blue Dons. He was intentionally walked in his final at-bat and came around to score his fourth run of the game. Michael Rogers, Fargo Camerlengo and Grant Retton each had two RBIs.

Madonna is at Toronto Wednesday.

Harrison tops Union Local

CADIZ – The Harrison Central baseball team defeated Union Local 4-1 Monday.

Drew Horn was the winning pitcher, going the distance, striking out four and surrendering two hits. Nick Pelegreen had a single and two RBIs with Rashaen Mitchell adding a single and a double for the Huskies (11-1). Nick Staten had a single and an RBI.

The teams meet again Wednesday, this time at Union Local.

Red Knights cruise

EAST LIVERPOOL – Toronto scored 15 times in the first two innings and cruised to a 15-0 victory over host East Liverpool on Monday,

Chez Glenn homered and singles, Blaze Glenn collected three singles, Tyler Owens and Brad Melville singled twice and Billy Solomon and John Romey each doubled and singled twice.

The 13-1 Red Knights host Madonna at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Purple Riders edge ‘Cats

MARTINS FERRY – Jeremy Plants ripped a shot down the left field line with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give host Martins Ferry a 1-0 win over Edison.

The teams go at it Wednesday at Jefferson Lake State Park.

Alec Jones and Dylan Glasure each singled twice for the Wildcats, who fell to 8-2.

Ryan Kramarich was the hard-luck loser. He fanned seven, walked two and allowed three singles.

Redskins stop Panthers

WINTERSVILLE – Megan Markja blasted two home runs and ripped a single for three RBIs as Indian Creek raised its record to 9-2 with a 9-2 victory over visiting Buckeye Local at Bantam Ridge Elementary Monday.

Paige DeMattio also ripped a two-run shot. Brey Mays and Abby Orr each added two singles.

Kierstyn Czuchran’s single and Lauren Swiger’s double for Buckeye Local broke up the no-hitter and shutout in the seventh.

Indian Creek hosts Oak Glen today. Buckeye Local hosts Steubenville.

Ferry nips Big Red

STEUBENVILLE – Martins Ferry’s Kylie Stalder laced a two-out, two-run double in the top of the seventh as the Purple Riders slipped past host Steubenville Big Red, 2-1, Monday at Jim Wood Park.

Martins Ferry, the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 4A leaders, upped its mark to 10-3. Big Red fell to 3-9.

Anna Perrino took the loss. She fanned two and did not walk a batter. Casey Gentile led the nine-hit attack with three singles.

Christina Archer delivered a double, single and the lone RBI in the second inning, scoring Gentile. Mallory Giannamore added a pair of singles.

Big Red visits Buckeye Local today.

WEIRTON – The Weir softball team lost 12-3 to Wheeling Central Monday at Weir High School.

Jillian Karavanic had a single and drove in a pair of runs for the Red Riders. Meikka Buffo had two singles, Kelly LeMasters a single and Morgan Rice pushed home a run.

Crusaders beat Bishops

STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville Catholic Central softball team moved to 12-1 on the season with a 10-1 win over Bishop Donahue Monday at Steve Zamana Field.

Alex McComb struck out nine to get the win in the circle for the Crusaders. McComb helped her own cause with two RBIs to go with a single and a double. Micca Mirabella had a double, triple and drove in a run with Sammi Giannamore adding three singles and Ashlynne Daley two singles and an RBI.

Central hosts John Marshall today.

Katie Ellzy racked up 11 strikeouts with just one walk and four hits surrendered to pick up the victory. Jess Custer had a three-run home run and a single with Emily Dodds adding three singles and an RBI. Ellzy helped her own cause with two singles and an RBI, Paige Dunlap had a single, double and an RBI and Kara Dunfee had two singles.

NEW ALEXANDRIA – The Jefferson County Christian School softball team picked up an 8-5 win in its season opener against Conotton Valley.

Meadow Jackson struck out five and went the distance to earn the victory. Theresa Recznik had three singles to lead the Royals at the plate with Sara Moro and Melanie Lewis each had a pair of singles.

PARKERSBURG – Brooke and host Parkersburg South split a doubleheader Monday. The hosts took the opener, 9-7, and the guests came back for a 6-5 win.

Taylor Simala delivered two doubles, two RBIs and scored twice for Brooke in the opener. Kristen Reardon, Brenna Smith and Isabella Preston each singled for an RBI. Reardon took the loss. She struck out three and walked no one.

Katie Castellucci garnered the Game 2 triumph in the circle. She fanned four and walked one. Brette Geary singled twice. Marena Cline singled and scored twice.
