Striders to have sign-ups
STEUBENVILLE – Registration for the Steuben Striders’ 40th summer track program will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and April 28 in room 2500 at Eastern Gateway Community College.
Cost is $30 per child ages 5-18. Parents are asked to bring a birth certificate for first-time runners.

Big Red rolls past Bruins
STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville High School softball team defeated Brooke, 10-0, in six innings Thursday.
Anna Perrino scattered four singles and struck out two in the victory. Tenia Barker, Carmie Biasi, Brittany Bodo and Mallory Giannamore each had two singles. Casey Gentile drove in a pair of runs.
Steubenville takes on Steubenville Catholic Central Monday at Franciscan University while Brooke hosts East Liverpool for a doubleheader today.

Monarchs top Red Riders
WEIRTON – The Weir baseball team fell 13-4 to John Marshall Thursday.
William Larch had a good day at the plate for the Red Riders, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two singles, and three RBIs. Jeremy Swartzmiller had a pair of singles, and Matt Cessna drove in a run.
Weir travels to North Marion for a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon.

NEW MANCHESTER – Oak Glen fell to Magnolia 12-3 on Thursday night.
The Golden Bears were led by Matt McLaughlin and Tyler Steed, who each had a double. Bub Haddox added a pair of singles.

Crusaders blast Potters
EAST LIVERPOOL – The Steubenville Catholic Central baseball team scored 12 runs on nine hits to put away East Liverpool 12-0 in five innings Tuesday.
Aleks Porreca was the winning pitcher, striking out three over five frames. Brenton Colabella connected for a double and two singles with Porreca and Chris Murphy each adding a pair of base knocks. Stone Romano had a double and Jack Reed chipped in with a single.
Central (9-4) hosts River today.

Panthers blank Monarchs
RAYLAND – The Buckeye Local baseball team received a strong effort from pitcher Chase Hopkins in a 3-0 win over John Marshall Tuesday.
Hopkins struck out three while scattering three base hits over seven innings to earn the victory. He helped his cause with a solo home run in the fifth innings. Austin Marshall tripled home Shane Duncan, who singled, before scoring on an error in the first.
Buckeye Local (8-8) hosts St. Clairsville today.

WHEELING – The John Marshall softball team held off Morgantown for a 5-4 win in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class 5A softball semifinals Tuesday.
Amy Rotriga struck out nine without a walk in picking up the victory. Hannah Rogerson had two singles and an RBI, Siisy George had a double and an RBI, Kristin Lewicki had a pair of singles, and Morgan Watson had an RBI for the Monarchs.
John Marshall will face Wheeling Park, 4-3 winners over Indian Creek, in the OVAC Class 5A final Saturday.

WHEELING – Fort Frye beat River 6-0 tin the OVAC Class 3A semifinals Tuesday.
Victoria Mimken was the winning pitcher, striking out seven, walking one, and scattering three hits. Abby Baker had a three-run homer with Lexi Huck adding a home run, two singles, and two RBIs. Hali LeMasters had a pair of singles and an RBI with Courtney Hendershot adding two singles.

WHEELING – Bellaire topped Shenandoah 6-5 with a run in the bottom of the eighth of the OVAC Class 3A semifinals Tuesday.
Megan Ging picked up the win for the Big Reds with a two strikeout, no walk performance. Megan Maffe had a single, double, and three RBIs with Elisha Gillespie driving in a run on a double, Ging adding an RBI single, and Dallas Messenger adding two singles. Morgan Runyan had a triple and Mackenzie Conroy had a double.
Bellaire takes on Fort Frye, 6-0 winners over River, in Saturday’s Class 3A final.
