Lady Knights drop opener to St. John Central

BELLAIRE – The St. John Central volleyball team defeated visiting Toronto 27-25, 25-17, 26-24 Thursday.

“Those scores speak volumes,” said Red Knights head coach Chelsey Fletcher. “St. John is a sound program and these young women did not just hold their own, we kept the Irish on their toes with intense competition.”

Miranda Robinson led the offense with eight kills, 10 points and seven assists. Mykia West added seven kills, while Amber Fuller totaled 10 points and six assists.

Katie Spadafora chipped in with eight blocks and 12 points. Chelsea Anderson delivered nine digs and 10 points, Emily Anderson 12 points and eight digs and Josey Jones 13 digs and 11 points.

“Our summer program will pay off for these ladies,” said Fletcher. “It was humbling to witness their self-pride while they recognized their own capability. They are playing strategic fast, hard volleyball with pride in their hearts. I am extremely proud of this opener.”

The Red Knights visit Shadyside today.

Lady Royals drop opener

WINTERSVILLE – The Jefferson County Christian volleyball team dropped a 17-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-25, 15-12 decision to Evangel Heights Christian Academy Thursday at the Ryan Activity Center.

Kassie Lucas led the way for the Royals with 15 points, 11 assists and four kills. Bre Brown added 12 kills, Alayna Pugh 14 points and five kills, Sara Moro nine points, five assists and three kills and Liz Wendt 10 points and three kills.

Park wins tri-match

WELLSBURG – Cole Hand was the medalist with a 2-over 37 Thursday at Highland Springs Golf Club as Wheeling Park scored 152 to beat University (161) and Brooke (179).

Kyle Wensel and Freddie Fitzsimmons each shot 38 and Dylan Wojcik 39 for the Patriots.

Logan Lojszczyk paced the Bruins with his 39. Noah Teaff shot 46 and Trey Gilham and Mario Boni each had 47s.

Beavers take


EAST SPRINGFIELD – Edison’s Jimmy Marsh and Beaver Local’s Joey Newlin shared medalist honors with 41s Thursday at Spring Hills Golf Course as the Beavers shot 178 to knock off Edison (184) and Oak Glen (225).

Hayden Moore carded a 43, Duncan Hildebrand a 45 and Landon Palma 49 for the Beavers.

For the Wildcats, Ben Boyd shot 44, Clay Woodward 46 and Shane Pendleton 53.

Trey Reese led the Golden Bears with his 51. Mike Watkins shot 55, Hayley Spurlock 56 and Jayson Chappell 63.

Blue Dons win

WILLIAMS – Alex Colantonio shot 38 to be the medalist Thursday at Williams Country Club as Weirton Madonna’s 164 defeated St. Marys (168), Morgantown (203) and Toronto (206).

Mike Rogers was next for the Blue Dons with 39. Nathan Mazur added 42 and Hunter Payne 45.

Drew Wells led St. Marys with a 40. Coleman Lamp shot 41, Robbie Harper 43 and Josh Richard 44. Will Newbold paced the Red Knights with a 49. Sante Carducci added 50, Ben Hlivko 53 and Riley Keirsey a 54.

BARNESVILLE – The Buckeye Local volleyball team dropped a 25-17, 25-15, 19-25, 25-18 decision at Barnesville Thursday.

Preslie Renforth totaled nine kills, 10 digs and three aces to pace the Panthers. Morgan Staten contributed 11 digs and nine kills, Kierstyn Czuchran seven kills, Morgan Federko four kills and two aces, Lexus Fedorko 13 assists, Becky Zeroski seven digs and Nicolette Devore nine assists. Buckeye Local visits Harrison Central today.

SALT FORK – Austin Merenoff’s 2-under 34 was best for medalist honors Thursday at Salt Fork Golf Club as Steubenville Catholic Central shot 167 to top Meadowbrook (173), Buckeye Trail (191) and Fort Frye (219).

Kevin Wells and Josh Merriman each shot 44 and Mike Manfresca 45 for the Crusaders.
