Steubenville to hold final sign-ups

STEUBENVILLE – Registration for the Steubenville Girls Softball Association fall ball will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Bellview Park. The cost is $30 per girl, and $15 for each additional girl in the family for age groups U8, U10, U12 and U15. You can bring a team for $300.

Big Red boosters to meet

STEUBENVILLE?- The Big Red Boosters Club will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Harding Stadium Fieldhouse.

The weekly meetings will be held on Tuesdays at the fieldhouse during the football season.

Madonna to hold golf tournament

WEIRTON – The 10th-annual Weirton Boys and Girls Club Golf Scramble will be held Sept. 1 at Mountaineer Woodview Golf Course and will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun. The team handicap must exceed 30 with only one member of the team with a six handicap or less.

The cost is $260 per foursome, will be open to the first 30 paid teams. It is being sponosred by Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort.

Panthers ticket policy

RAYLAND – Varsity football tickets for Buckeye Local home games will be sold on Fridays during lunches (10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.). Tickets will not be sold after 1 p.m. Prices are $5 for adults and $4 for students. All tickets are $6 at the gate.

Away game prices are set by the opponent. All-sport passes are available during school hours in the athletic office for senior citizens ($40), students ($50) and adults ($100).

Girls fall league at Big Red

STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville Girls Basketball Fall League will be held Sept. 15 through Oct. 20 for middle school (grades 5-8) and high school teams.

Only two players from the same school will be allowed on the same team (per OHSAA rules). The goal is to have each girl play in two games every Sunday. Teams will change on a weekly basis and all games are scheduled to be officiated.

Cost is $60 per player and includes league shirt. Games will be played inside the Crimson Center and Stern Gym.

Daily wins club championship

CADIZ – Dan Daily shot 4-over 292 to win the club championship at Cadiz Country Club. Bob Shepherd was second at 296 in the 72-hole tournament.

Junior tennis league to begin

WEIRTON – The second year for the junior tennis program for middle school students throughout the Ohio Valley will be be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Starvaggi Park.

A brief parents organizational meeting will be held prior to practice. All levels of skill players, including beginners are welcome. Come dressed and ready to play. A program for younger players is available also.

Red Riders selling tickets

WEIRTON – Tickets for the OVAC Kickoff Classic on Thursday at Indian Creek High School are on sale at the Weir High School athletic office. The cost is $10 for both games.

Indian Creek hosts the Red Riders at 5:30 p.m. and Weirton Madonna takes on Beallsville at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Redskins selling tickets

WINTERSVILLE – Indian Creek football season tickets will be on sale through Wednesday at the athletic office. Season tickets will not be available after that date. Student Activity passes are also available for $35.

Big Red to hold preview

STEUBENVILLE – Steubenville Big Red will hold a preview/scrimmage on Tuesday against Struthers High School. The seventh- and eighth-grade will have an intrasquad scrimmage at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity team at 5 p.m.

The Reserve and freshmen teams will scrimmage following the varsity. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students. There is not a sign in sheet for parents for a scrimmage. Everyone is to pay.

Big Red will host a Meet the Team at 6 p.m. Thursday at Harding Stadium. The evening will introduce the Harding Middle School football and volleyball teams and cheerleaders.

The high school boys soccer, girls soccer, volleyball, golf and football teams and coaches will be introduced. The cheerleaders will perform their competition routine and the band will do their pregame and halftime performances.

Admission to this event is a nonperishable item for the Urban Mission.

Crusaders open with a win

STEUBENVILLE – The Steubenville Catholic Central volleyball team won its season opener, 25-14, 25-13, 25-21 Saturday afternoon against visiting Cambridge.

Robyn Runkel totaled 25 points and three aces, Monica Fischer 22 points and six aces, Madeline Gulan eight kills and five blocks and Monica Rigaud 13 kills and three blocks.

Central hosts Beallsville on Monday.
