Redskins capture East Ohio Invitational

LORE CITY – The Indian Creek volleyball team swept through its opponents to win the East Ohio Invitational Saturday at Buckeye Trail High School.

The Redskins defeated local rival Steubenville Big Red in the final 25-22, 25-18.

Bre Berryman led the way for the Redskins offensively all day. She totaled nine kills in the final. Kiarra Kamarec added six kills, five digs and two blocks and Whitney martin seven kills and six digs.

Jessica Furda added 21 assists, eight digs and two blocks, Bethany Davis five digs, four assists and three kills, Mallorie Sullivan eight digs, Brooke Spence six digs and Alexis Fithen two kills.

For Big Red, Taylor Young delivered six points, five assists and three kills and Abby Taylor six assists, five digs and two kills.

Mytia Barker added five digs, two kills and two points, Annie Nehrbas four kills and four points, Brittany Bodo three points, two kills and two digs, Carmie Biasi seven digs and Lysiah Rise three blocks.

Indian Creek opened the tournament with wins over Steubenville Catholic Central (25-12, 25-19) and Maysville (25-18, 25-16).

In those triumphs, Berryman totaled 34 kills, eight blocks and two digs, Kamarec 10 kills, six digs and two blocks, Martin 15 digs and three blocks and Furda 41 assists, 11 digs and two aces.

Davis added 20 digs, five kills, two aces and two assists, Sullivan 10 digs, Spence dix digs, Fithen three kills and three digs, Kaylee LaRue six digs and two aces and Martina Marko two blocks and two digs.

Big Red earned victories over Caldwell (25-14, 25-13) and Zanesville (25-20, 25-15).

In those victories, Young had seven points, 13 kills, eight assists and four digs, Taylor 23 points, six kills, 18 assists, seven digs and two blocks and Barker 13 points, six kills, 10 digs and two blocks.

Biasi added 16 digs and six points, Bodo nine points, two kills, six digs and two assists, Nehrbas five points, five kills, five digs and four blocks and Rice two blocks.

Indian Creek visits Oak Glen Monday, hosts Edison Tuesday and travels to Weir Thursday.

Big Red welcomes Beaver Local Monday, Catholic Central Tuesday and East Liverpool Thursday.

Bruins go 1-2 in quad

MOUNDSVILLE – The Brooke volleyball team went 1-2 in a quad match Saturday at John Marshall High School.

The Bruins lost to East Liverpool (25-21, 25-17), defeated Fairmont (25-16, 17-25, 25-10) and lost to John Marshall (27-25, 20-25, 25-20).

On the day, Angela Staffileno totaled 46 kills, 21 blocks, 13 points, nine digs and six aces. Emily Stuck added 47 assists, 19 points, seven digs, six aces, five kills and three blocks and Abby Adams 26 points, 10 blocks, seven kills and seven aces.

Also for the Bruins, Kourtney Leonard chipped in with 16 points and five kills, Isabella Preston 21 points, five aces, four kills and six digs, Courtney Elliott two kills and 12 digs, Krista D’Ulisse seven digs, Alexa Gerard six kills, eight assists and three blocks, Alivia Brown four digs, Jentzen Kowcheck eight digs and Madison Marchetti three kills and four digs.

Brooke (6-12) visits Buckeye Local on Tuesday.

Central girls blanked

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The St. Clairsville girls soccer team defeated visiting Steubenville Catholic Central, 3-0, Saturday afternoon.

Moriah Vosteen totaled 21 saves for the Crusaders (4-5-2). They return to action Oct. 2 at John Marshall.
