Brooke blanks Knights
WHEELING – The Brooke girls soccer team defeated host Wheeling Central, 2-0, Monday.
Michaela Hinerman scored off a Cheyenne Hudson and Leila Hannaoui found the net from Hinerman as the Bruins raised their record to 14-3-2. They host Weir today.
Payge Farmer totaled three saves for the winners. Megan Blaha had 10 saves for the Maroon Knights.
Brooke will visit Wheeling Park at 6:30 p.m. Monday in the West Virginia Class AAA Region 1, Section 1 tournament.
Redskins sweep Weir
WEIRTON – The Indian Creek girls volleyball team swept host Weir High 25-5, 25-5, 25-11 Monday.
Kiarra Kamarec led the way with 10 kills, four blocks and three digs. Alexis Fithen added eight kills and three blocks and Jessica Furda 23 assists and six digs.
Mallorie Sullivan added nine digs, Brooke Spence two aces, Bethany Davis two aces, two blocks and six digs, Martina Marko five kills, Kaylee LaRue one dig and Bre Berryman three kills
The Redskins will meet Minerva at 6 p.m. Wednesday at St. Clairsville in the Ohio Division II sectional tournament.
Lady Crusaders advance
DOVER – The Steubenville Catholic Central volleyball team advances in the Ohio Division IV sectional tournament Monday night with a 25-10, 25-22, 25-21 victory over Strasburg at Dover High School.
It sets up a 6 p.m. Thursday contest with Hiland, a 25-23, 7-25, 25-21, 25-27, 15-11 winner over Malvern on Monday.
Lauren Allensworth had six kills and Sierra Bonifant two blocks, 11 digs and nine kills for Strasburg.
Monica Rigaud led the Central offense with 12 kills, 13 points, seven blocks and three aces.
Robyn Runkel delivered 25 assists, three aces and 20 points, Monica Fischer two kills, three digs and 13 points and Madeline Gulan seven kills, three assists, three blocks and eight points.
Taylor Bednar chipped in with five kills, two assists and five blocks, Megan Lloyd 10 points, 15 assists, three blocks and three kills and Kamy Bellardine 12 points, three assists, two kills and six digs.
WBA to hold meeting
WINTERSVILLE – The Wintersville Baseball Association will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Zalenski’s restaurant.
