Union Local races past Huskies

CADIZ – The Union Local girls basketball team scored 49 points in the second half to fly past Harrison Central, 67-38, in a season-opening game on Monday.

The Huskies (0-1) led 24-18 at halftime, but scored just seven points in the third and fourth quarters.

The Jets (1-0) did not make any 3-pointers, but were led in scoring by Abby Collins with 15 points. Cori Medley and Amanda Swallie each scored 14 points, while Mikayala Patton added 12.

D.J. Keesey led Harrison Central with 11 points and Kara Dunfee added eight. Jesse Ledger scored six points off of two 3-pointers and Dunfee also knocked down a pair of triples.

Union Local won the rebound battle, 39-19 and had just 15 turnovers, compared to 24 by the Huskies.
