TORONTO – The Toronto baseball team scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to catch up with Beaver Local in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Saturday. The Beavers won, 2-1, but Toronto caught up in Game 2 with a 10-3 win.

Freshman Danny Zdinak took the first loss going four innings, striking out four and walking four. Nate Stewart had three strikeouts in relief and notched a pair of singles.

Sophomore Hank Clegg earned the win in Game 2 with eight strikeouts. Blaze Glenn and Tyler Antinone reached base twice on singles. Glenn added a double Stewart had a double, as well.

ORLANDO, Fla. – In Disney World, the Brooke baseball team recorded 15 hits in its 17-0 win over Worthington.

The Bruins (4-1) wrapped up their Florida trip with the four-inning game on Saturday after being stuck inside the hotel with threats of a severe thunderstorm.

Aaron Walker struck out two to get the win. In relief, Hunter Grishkevich had a strikeout and Cody Wales recorded two.

At the plate, Nick Ossman was a home run away from the cycle and he recorded an RBI. Russell Schwertfeger had a double with three RBIs, Keelan Welch had two singles, a double and three RBIs and Mario Lombardi knocked a single, double and an RBI.

Walker and Fargo Carmerlengo each had a triple.

STEUBENVILLE – Catholic Central senior pitcher Chris Murphy tossed a five-inning no-hitter in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Columbiana on Saturday. The Crusaders topped the Clippers, 10-0 and 8-1 in Game 2.

Aleks Porreca won the second game with nine strikeouts. In relief, Tony Barber struck out one batter.

At the plate in Game 1, Brenton Colabella had two singles, while Porreca and Stone Romano each ripped a double.

Colabella had two doubles in Game 2. Porreca, Murphy, Jacob Arai and Johnny DiCarlantonio all had one double.

The Crusaders (2-0) return to the diamond on Monday, hosting Beaver Local at Bellevue at 5 p.m.
