Dons, Big Red sweep twinbills
WEIRTON – A no-hitter thrown by Amanda Pulice headlined a successful Saturday for the Madonna softball team.
In Game 2 of a doubleheader, Pulice struck out three and walked one in a four inning no-hitter in which Madonna won, 10-0, over Clarksburg Notre Dame. The Blue Dons started the day with a 12-0 blanking of the Fighting Irish in three innings.
All 12 runs came in the first inning. Brianna Fierro collected two singles, while Becca Holt, Mikaela Linhart, Amanda Paul, Montana Mascio, Aubrey Platek and Courtney Kaczmarek all had one hit.
Kaczmarek earned the win with four strikeouts and two hits.
Holt singled and tripled in Game 2, while Platek and Kaczmarek singled. Taylor Thompson raced for a triple, while Emily Pietranton ripped a double.
The Blue Dons are 7-3 and host Conotton Valley Monday at 5:30 p.m.

Bruins swept in DH
MARTINS FERRY – Martins Ferry scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning (the game-winner with two outs) in Game 1 and three in the third in Game 2 to sweep visiting Brooke 4-3 and 5-2 Saturday.
The Bruins doubled the Purple Riders in hits (10-5) in Game 1, but committed three errors. Kaylee Kuchinski was the hard-luck loser. She fanned three and walked one.
Cassi Camilletti blasted a home run and singled for a pair of RBIs for the Bruins (6-5). Michaela Hinerman singled twice for an RBI and Kuchinski and Taylor Simala singled twice. Brette Geary added a double.
Katie Castellucci took the loss in Game 2. She struckout three and walked two. Isabella Preston smacked a solo home run and Camilletti doubled.
Brooke hosts John Marshall Monday, University Tuesday and Indian creek Wednesday.

Steubenville sweeps Oak Glen
NEW MANCHESTER – Steubenville took two games from Oak Glen on Saturday, beating the Golden Bears 4-3 and 17-5.
Sierra Fields hit a home run in the first game to pace the offense, while Rhiannon Petrisko singled and doubled. Mytia Barker doubled, while Tenia Barker and Nauja Banks singled.
Hayley Stamps earned the win with six strikeouts.
Oak Glen led 2-1 after the second inning and were led by two singles from Maryasa Durante and a triple from Logan Andrews and Taylor McKay. Mikayla Crane, Marissa Young and Ashley Pryor singled.
Hanna Clunk took the loss, but struck out 11 batters.
In Game 2, the Big Red offensive exploded with five runs in the third, eight in the fourth and four in the sixth. The Barker sisters combined for three singles, while Banks singled and tripled and Gentile singled and doubled. Carmie Biasi added a single.
Carlee Jenkins earned the win with one strikeout.
For Oak Glen, Pryor doubled, while Crane, Duarante, Andrews, Young and Aly Snow singled.

Panthers’ power unleashed against Knights
TORONTO- Kierstyn Czuchran blasted two home runs, laced a double and collected three RBIs in Buckeye Local’s 13-1 win over Toronto on Saturday.
For the Panthers, Ivy Starcher drove home a pair of runs on a single and double and Sandra Gardner had a two RBI double and Becky Zeroski singled, doubled and had one RBI. Lauren Swiger and Morgan Staten each doubled, while Karlee Leonard had a single.
Starcher earned the win with eight strikeouts. Toronto’s Serena Burkey took the loss with 11 strikeouts.
Burkey also collected three singles and drove in the Red Knights’ lone run.

Central swept in Akron
AKRON – In a doubleheader against statewide competition, the Catholic Central softball team was defeated, 1-0, by Oak Harbor and 10-0 by Richfield Revere.
In Game 1, Taylor Weesong of Oak Harbor, a school located southeast of Toledo, hit the game winning hit, a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Alex McComb suffered the loss after going the distance with six strikeouts and two walks. At the plate, Micca Mirabella and Brittany Bertoia each singled.
Oak Harbor improved to 7-1.
Megan Lloyd took the loss in Game 2, which went five innings. Fran Capaldi doubled for the Crusaders, now 4-3 and Mirabella added a single.
Revere improved to 6-2.
