Edison, Big Red earn sweeps; BL splits

RICHMOND – The Edison baseball team improved to 9-0 with a pair of wins over Union Local on Saturday.
The Wildcats won 5-2 and 4-3.
Clay Woodward pitched a complete game to earn the victory in the first game. The junior struck out seven and didn’t allow a walk.
At the plate, Tanner Evans and Collin Skeeles each had two singles, while Nolan Marcus, Storm Allese, Josh Pasek and Collin Scott each reached base once.
Brian Flack started Game 2 with a pair of strikeouts in the first inning. Matt Johnson picked up on the mound in the second and earned the win after striking out two and not issuing a walk. Marcus struck out the side in the seventh inning.
Dylan Jones had a single and RBI for the Wildcats, while Marcus added a pair of singles. Allese added a double, while Evans singled

Big Red gets two wins
STEUBENVILLE – Justin Corsi and Paul Runkel pitched complete games to help pace Big Red to two wins on Saturday.
Corsi earned the win in a 4-1 victory over Cambridge by striking out four batters and allowing five hits. Runkel went the distance in Game 2 with a 9-6 win over Claymont. The sophomore struck out five and escaped a fist inning jam where Claymont scored five runs.
At the plate, Bryan Pierro combined for four hits, as did Niko Petrides. Anthony Zorne had two singles, while Corsi added a triple. Kasey Peterson colelcted two doubles and Brandon Jones doubled, while Dimitri Collaros singled.
Steubenville is now 10-3 and play at Wheeling Park in a make up game on Monday.

Buckeye splits with Red Devils
ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The Buckeye Local baseball team scored five runs in the top of the seventh and beat St. Clairsville, 10-9 in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Panthers fell, 3-2, in the first game, though Eric Banal singled, hit a home run and drove in a pair of runs.
In Game 2, Banal singled and drove in a run, while Jonathan Borkoski singled, doubled and had three RBIs. Brandon Panepucci added two singles and Josh Figurski singled and doubled.
The Panthers will host Bellaire on Monday.

Indian Creek blanked by Bellaire
BELLAIRE – Spencer Badia limited Indian Creek to just two hits, while striking out four, in Bellaire’s 11-0 win over the Redskins on Saturday.
Badia also belted a home run.
Cole Yeater took the loss for Creek. Jonathan Blackburn took over on the mound and struck out three batters.
The Redskins dropped to 2-10.

Ferry sweeps Huskies
MARTINS FERRY – Martins Ferry earned a 5-3 and 8-6 wins over Harrison Central on Saturday.
Dustin Redish took the loss in Game 1, pitching a complete game. Redish struck out six and walked five. At the plate, he ripped two singles and drove in a run.
Ian Saho had a single and two RBIs.
Giovanni Rocchi started Game 2 and took the loss after striking out four and walking one. Brandon Mitchell took over in the sixth and had one strikeout without a walk.
Nick Staten had a single with two RBIs, while Dalton Rutter also singled and drove in a pair of runs.
Saho added two singles.
