Errors doom Edison softball against BL

RICHMOND – The Buckeye Local softball team scored four times in the top of the fourth inning without a hit and went on for a 9-3 victory over Edison at Jefferson Lake State Park Monday. It was the opener for both teams.

The Panthers broke a 2-2 tie for a 6-2 lead and didn’t look back.

Edison uncharacteristically committed 12 errors.

Ivy Starcher earned the win. She struck out five and walked one. Kierstyn Czuchran blasted a two-run homer over the right field fence. Lauren Swiger added a pair of doubles and two RBIs.

Zoe Westfall took the loss. She fanned five and walked two. Freshman Skylar Fankhouser homered to left and singled in her first varsity start. Kayli Stewart added a single, home run and two RBIs.

Redskins cruise to victory

WINTERSVILLE – Indian Creek starter Paige Geanangel threw a one-hitter and added a single and two RBIs as the Redskins cruised past visiting Beaver Local, 5-0, Monday at Bantam Ridge Elementary.

Cheyanne Allen added two RBIs and Mallory Sullivan and Alexis Monroe two singles each. Hannah Webb collected a single and RBI.

Bears smack Wellsville

NEW MANCHESTER – Oak Glen scored five times in the bottom of the fifth inning for a 10-1 victory over visiting Wellsville Monday at the Field of Dreams Complex.

The Golden Bears began with two runs in the bottom of the first with a single from Mykelti McGaffic. She was driven in by a double from Logan Andrews and a single from Hanna Clunk plated Andrews.

In the third, Ashley Pryor singled and Clunk walked opening the door for Mikayla Crane to drive them in on a hard triple. Crane scored on a wild pitch to put up the third run of the inning, making it a 5-1 game.

The Bears scored five runs in the fifth on an RBI double by Clunk, a two-run double by Maryasa Durante, and a two-run single by Erin Fields to end the game. Andrews, Clunk, Crane, and Durante combined for seven hits and seven RBIs.

Andrews earned the win thanks to 11 strikeouts. She walked one.

“Logan and Mikayla played a phenomenal game on the mound and behind the plate, and the defense did their job on the field,” said Bears coach Morgan Martin. “Offensively, the girls are hitting hard, running smart, and earning important runs. It’s great to see them achieving success.”

Dons win in 11th inning

CAMERON – Madonna put up five runs in the top of the 11th inning for a 14-9 victory over host Cameron on Monday.

The big shot came via a two-out grand slam from Becca Holt. The inning started as winning pitcher Courtney Kaczmarek reached on an error. Aubrey Platek and Montana Mascio singled to load the bases.

Mikaela Lenhart, the courtesy runner for Kaczmarek, scored on a wild pitch. Brianna Fierro reached on a bunt to load the sacks, leading to Holt’s blast one out later.

Cameron scored one in the bottom of the seventh and two in the bottom of the eighth to keep the game going.

Mascio finished with three singles. Amanda Paul, Taylor Thompson and Holt singled twice. Annie Magnone tripled. Kaczmarek earned the win.

Irish blanks Knights

TORONTO – St. John Central scored 12 times in the fifth inning for a 16-0 victory over host Toronto in five innings Monday.

Hannah Absolum held Toronto to one hit, a single by Lexie Berger. Serena Burkey took the loss for the Red Knights, who visit Steubenville Catholic Central today.
