Golden Bears tennis defeat Big Red

STEUBENVILLE – The Oak Glen boys tennis team earned two of three doubles wins en route to a 4-3 victory over host Steubenville Thursday at Belleview Park.

In doubles, Oak Glen’s Addison Sayre and Jesse Lantz nipped Mike Rosaschi and Jorge Dominguez 9-8 (7-5) and Eddie Krupa and Devon Flannigan edged Myles Chancio and Mack Allen, 8-6.

Big Red’s Annie Nehrbas and Dom DiCarlo defeated Cullen Bennett and Evan Hall, 8-4.

In singles action, Rosaschi beat Sayre, 8-4, and Dominguez stopped Bennett, 8-3. Oak Glen’s Eddie Krupa downed Federico Torres 8-4 and Hall defeated Tyler Clevenger 8-3.

ASA tops Big Red

STEUBENVILLE – Big Red played a doubleheader with American Spirit Academy traveling to Belleview Park and the Warriors left with a 3-2 victory.

Josh Blakely defeated Rosaschi 6-1, 6-0. Robert Buck beat Dominguez and T.J. Martin topped Vinny Craig by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

Alex Isla and Clevenger downed Josh Geary and Lane Lopala 6-2, 6-3 and Brandon DiLoreta and Calvin Jones beat Hannah Leuk and Azzan Lambo 6-1, 6-1.

Dons sweep Knights

WEIRTON – The Weirton Madonna boys tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over visiting Wheeling Central Thursday at Starvaggi Park. The Lady Blue Dons also beat the Maroon Knights, 6-1.

Madonna won two of the three doubles matches. Dom Clements and Alan Alimario defeated Billy Teufel and Giorgio Alexander 8-3, while Ryan Watts and Cole Roberts won by forfeit.

Wheeling Central’s Jonathan Haley and Gus Schmidt nipped Matt Conforti and Thomas Gianni, 9-7.

In singles, Conforti beat Haley and Alimario beat Alexander by 8-3 scores. Schmidt topped Gianni, 8-2, and Teufel blanked Clements, 8-0.

The Lady Blue Dons won two of the three matches contest. They won the other four points via forfeit.

Ali Welch and Tina Conforti defeated Joanna Capito and Maricris Pangilinan in doubles, 8-4.

In singles, Capito blanked Welch (8-0) and Conforti defeated Pangilinan (8-2).

Red Devils blank Creek

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The St. Clairsville tennis teams swept visiting Indian Creek Thursday 5-0 (boys) and 7-0.

For the boys, Austin Douglas defeated Cole Recinella and Izaac Wiley beat Gabe Thomas by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Brendan Ryan defeated Felix Deutscher 6-1, 6-0.

St. Clairsville won both doubles matches by forfeit.

Danielle DiNoble beat Deseree Taylor and Alexa Clark beat Morgan Evans by 8-2 scores; Katelin Gandee defeated Addie Winland 8-0; and Paige Beckett edged Shelby Dye, 8-5.

In doubles, DiNoble and Gandee stopped Taylor and Winland and Clark and Beckett downed Evans and Dye by 8-2 scores.

St. Clairsville won the third doubles match by forfeit.

ASA downs Central

EAST LIVERPOOL – American Spirit Academy downed Steubenville Catholic Central, 4-1, Wednesday at East Liverpool Country Club.

Kamy Belardine and Khalil Jones won Central’s point with an 8-0 doubles win over Leuk and Lambo. Geary and Lopala defeated Suzy Thibault and Caleb Moore 9-8 (7-4) in the other doubles contest.

In singles, Blakely beat John-Paul McNamara 8-5; Black downed Ethan Phillips 8-1; and Martin defeated Cody Raymond 8-1.

The Crusaders visit Linsly today.

Ravenswood beats Bears

RAVENSWOOD – The Oak Glen tennis team split with host Ravenswood on Wednesday, a 4-3 win (girls) and 6-1 loss.

In the girls competition, the Golden Bears’ Haley Spurlock blanked Kerigan Crow 8-0 and Madison Juszczak beat Grace Weekley 8-1.

Ravenswood’s Erin Burks defeated madison Hill 8-0 and Jordan Matics downed Katie Szymanski 8-4.

In doubles, Spurlock and Juszczak beat Crow and Weekly 8-1 and Molly Swartzmiller and Kayla Strong defeated Alicia Alderman and Tessa Snyder 8-5.

Burks and Matics edged Hill and Szymanski 8-6.

Oak Glen’s Sayre beat Ethan Cross, 8-6, for the lone boys point. Sean Matics beat Bennett 8-1 and Clayton Curry topped Hall 8-5.

In doubles, Matics and Curry beat Bennett and Hall 8-1 and Elias McKown and Kurt Tennant blanked Krupa and Flannigan 8-0.
