WELLSBURG – The Brooke baseball team won its 18th game of the season thanks to a 5-4 decision over visiting John Marshall on Tuesday.
Heath Hildreth grabbed the win as five Bruins marched to the mound.
He also led the offense with a single, triple and three RBIs. Russell Schwertfeger delivered two singles and Chad Harper collected a single and RBI.
Brooks (18-7) hosts Wheeling Park at 5 p.m. Friday in the West Virginia Class AAA Region 1, Section 1 tournament.

Wildcats blank Central
RICHMOND – Three Edison pitchers held Steubenville Catholic Central to two hits – singles by Brenton Colabella and Johnny DiCarlantonio – in a 2-0 victory Tuesday at Jefferson Lake State Park.
Clay Woodward went the first three for the Wildcats. Austin Horan took over in the fourth and was credited with the victory, as his squad plated its two runs in the bottom of the inning. Collin Scott was on the bump for the final six outs and the save.
Tanner Evans had a single, double and an RBI for the winners. Bryce Piatt added a single.
Nick Ivkovich took the loss. He fanned six and walked two in four innings. Mark Rest pitched the final two frames.
Central takes on Shadyside at 6 p.m. today at Bridgeport in a Division IV sectional contest.
Edison will meet Cambridge at 6 p.m. Thursday at Vaccaro Field in Division II sectional action.

Red Knights advance with ease
BRIDGEPORT – The Toronto baseball team advanced in the Division IV sectional tournament with a 12-2 victory over St. John Central in five innings Tuesday at Bridgeport High School.
Hank Clegg allowed four hits in the five innings. He struck out four and walked three.
Nate Stewart led the offense with a single, double and two RBIs. Will Newbold and Sam Pinkerton each collected two singles and a pair of RBIs.
Catcher Bill Solomon had a single and RBI and Blaze Glenn an RBI.
The Red Knights will take on host Bridgeport at 6 p.m. Thursday.
