Crusader softball rallies past Irish

BELLAIRE – Though St. John’s Hannah Absalom struck out nine, the Central batters rallied to top the Irish, 5-1, on Wednesday.

Micca Mirabella reached base in all her at-bats with two singles and two walks and she scored three runs. Mirabella also stole six bases.

Fran Capaldi drove in a pair of runs on a double, while Maddy Gulan and Ashlynne Daley each had a double and RBI.

“We had good vision at the plate and put together a great game against a great team,” said Central coach Jim DiCarlo.

On the mound, Alex McComb struck out seven, walked none and allowed just six hits.

The Crusaders improved to 13-4 and have senior night on Friday.

St. John dropped to 16-3.

Cambridge tops Edison

RICHMOND – The Cambridge softball team scored two runs in the first inning and held on for a 3-1 win over Edison.

Cassady Jarvis hit a solo home run in the sixth for Edison’s lone run.

Caitlin Brenstuhl struck out three and walked five on the mound for the Wildcats (7-13). She also singled at the plate.

Kayli Stewart ripped a pair of singles, while Charli McConnell, Lynsey Morrison and Skylar Fankhouser added hits.

Edison hosts Beaver Local today.

SHERRODSVILLE – The Toronto softball team topped Conotton Valley, 15-1, behind four hits from Erin Taggert and 20 total.

Serena Burkey started for the Red Knights and struck out 12 in six innings. Desiree Meadows pitched the seventh with one strikeout.

At the plate, Burkey had two doubles and single, as did Lexie Berger. Kaylie Zdinak ripped a pair of singles, Lindsey King added three and Chelsea Anderson doubled.
