Two big innings lead Blue Dons past Beaver Local

CALCUTTA – The Beaver Local baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 2-1 lead over Weirton Madonna on Tuesday.

That was its last lead.

The Blue Dons exploded for seven runs in the fourth and five in the fifth for a 13-2 five-inning road victory.

Ross Comis collected five RBIs on a pair of doubles. Will Bowser added four RBIs on a double and single. Luca Fuscardo contributed a single, double and an RBI. Vinnie Merico had two singles and Jake Gasuoda a single and a pair of RBIs.

The Blue Dons take on Weir High at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bowman Field in the annual city championship clash.

Senior Night will be held at 6 p.m. for both teams.

Redskins top Bobcats

CAMBRIDGE – The Indian Creek baseball team saw its five runs in the top of the first inning matched by host Cambridge in the bottom of the inning, but the Redskins managed to scratch out single runs in the fourth and sixth innings for an 8-6 victory on Tuesday.

Jonathan Blackburn earned the win. He went the distance and allowed three strikeouts and three walks.

Mike Freshwater had a single and two RBIs and Adam Freshwater a double and RBI. Cole Yeater added a single and RBI, Jimmy Bolyog two singles and Anthon Krager a single.

Bulldogs down Knights

BRIDGEPORT – The Toronto softball team scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but that was it in a 9-2 loss at Bridgeport on Tuesday.

Serena Burkey doubled for the Red Knights. Kaylie Zdinak singles twice and Desiree Meadows took the loss.

Panthers win two

The Buckeye Local baseball team raised its record to 11-10 with victories over Shadyside (12-4) and Bridgeport (15-2) on Tuesday.

Eric Williams got the Game 1 win as the Panthers scored five in the top of the seventh to break open a 7-4 game. Williams fanned nine and walked four.

Chase Hopkins for the Game 2 victory.

He was aided by grand slams by Jonathan Borkoski and Josh Figurski. Buckeye Local had an 11-4 lead after three innings.

The Panthers visit Shadyside on Thursday.
