Post 10 wins a pair

Weirton Post 10 swept a pair of games Friday at the Hillbilly Classic.

Behind a powerful pitching performance of Mario Lombardi, Post 10 grabbed a 13-3 victory over Preston County at Philip Barbour High School.

Weirton earned a 7-5 win in Game 2 over Fairmont Post 17 behind two RBIs from Will Larch on a home run and single in Elkins.

Post 10 will play today at Tygarts Valley.

Lombardi struckout nine and walked one in the six-inning victory. His teammates jumped out early with five runs in the top of the first inning and four more in the second.

Matt Cessna delivered a double, two singles and three RBIs. Kaleb Baire wrapped three singles, Kelaen Welch doubled and Will Bowser singled and doubled.

Zac Porter earned the Game 2 win with Bowser picking up the save.

Welch, Baire and Vinnie Merica each had two singles. Bowser singled and doubled and Kyle Woodruff had a single and two RBIs.

The game was stopped after six innings due to rain.

Post 33 splits

CHILLICOTHE – Steubenville Post 33 split its two games at the Chillicothe Tournament Friday, winning 1-0 in nine innings and losing 5-4 in a game called after six innings due to darkness.

Niko Petrides laced a double to left field with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning scoring Bryan Pierro, who began the frame with a single to center. Anthony Zorne picked up the win over Piqua, striking out 10 and walking seven.

Petrides also singled, as did Aleks Porreca.

Ida, Mich. plated a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning in what proved to be the game-winners in Game 2.

Porreca, Gino Pierro and Justin Corsi singled and John Linn had a two-RBI double.

Post 33, which scored one in the first, two in the second and one in the third, continues action today in Chillicothe.
